I wanted to pass this one along to everyone, as it makes a lot of sense. Oil is just above 136.00 a barrel. We sell grain to the Arabs at 7.00 a barrel. All we have to do is up the price of grain to equal the price of oil and let 'em squirm. We can meet somewhere in the middle, or they can use their oil to saute their sliced camel ass. We could do this except there are no real leaders any longer who have the cujones to do something like this.

Fat chance. They'll just import it from China like we do.

Firstly, I think grain is sold by the "bushel".

Secondly, unless every provider of grain raises the price, they will just go to another source. Oh, and if you raise the price, then the price of a loaf of bread at the grocery goes up too. You can't just charge one country a high rate and nobody else.

Good luck with that.

Commodities are commodities and there's no way to control the price of any of them. They're traded on open markets around the world. Only a glut of buyers forces the price of any commodity upwards.

The U.S. government could nationalize the oil business in America tomorrow and your price at the pump wouldn't go down one penny on gasoline. The government would still have to import crude oil bought on the open world market, even if crude oil was removed from the commodity market in the U.S.

It would be much better to just stop buying it (oil).

Let them charge whatever they can get from others, who cares?

Although I don't back all of John McCain's wacky claims, he is right that we may as well start pumping and drilling here at home, if it means money spent in the U.S. and not exported elsewhere. We won't find cheaper oil, but at least it will be "domestic" oil.

But the real investment needs to be in the R&D to get us off the oil standard as quickly as possible. Let the Feds create a few thousand jobs that will actually, really save the planet.

Why all this anger against the "Arabs" when we only get about 15% of our oil from them?

The rest comes from Mexico, Canada, Africa and Chavez in Venezuela.

Americans in the San Diego area are already lining up to cross the border to the south and buy Mexican gasoline at about $2.49/gallon. The lines get longer every single day.

It's said the Mexican gas has more sulphur content and will help destroy your car's catalytic converter. Those in the lines don't seem to care.

They will when they pay $900 for a new one to pass the smog test!

How about gas rationing, circa 1942-1945?

Oh, N2RJ, you have the germ of a great idea!

Canada, listen up!

Want a little 'leverage' when talking to the Giant of the South on your border?

You guys supply about 16% of the US oil imports!

Now, think about that.....give you any ideas?

Ya, and maybe you could join up with Mexico (who supplies another 10% of US oil imports) and, well, work out some 'better' trade deals with the US....or, opsss, the cost of oil jumps up a little....gee, tough luck America.

Besides, your dollar is stronger than the US dollar, AND you have better beer!

Cosmic!

While we are at it we may as well turn off the fresh water valve as well.

Feel free to cutoff those folks!
I'm sitting on the banks of the Tennessee River and will not notice it at all.
We are currently having to defend our river from water short Atlanta,GA area residents.;)

Ya ever notice how criticism of the US is always 'AntiAmericanism'......just like criticism of the Nazis was Anti-German,
like criticism of the Communist Party was anti-Russian
like.....well, you get the idea.

anybody remember the FULL quote, 'my country right or wrong'?

anyhow. Until the criminal-warmonger bunch currently running this country are tucked away safely in jail I AM VERY MUCH ANTI-GOVERNMENT, which, believe it or not, is NOT the same as Anti-American.....not that I expect this bunch to know the difference.

Ah,

what makes you think there are any other AMERICANS in the group?

Maybe we are all Canadians, Brits, Italians, illegal Mexican aliens and space aliens!!!!

You never know...

For sure.....

(actually, we do have a secret base....hidden in the wilds near the Canadian border on Priest Lake, Idaho, but, like I say, it's a secret.....so don't tell anybody about it.....)

I do, give them all the boot.
We need to start over because they are all worthless.
I does not matter what political party they belong to they are all evil and dirty. Besides how long can they possibly live anyway they are all like a century old. Fill congress up with my generation and see how fun and exciting things will be.:D Wanna have a rave in the oval office, lol.

HAHA, but seriously I think the government is broken.
We need to fix it some how, how is the question.
If the people in office are not doing a good job we need new people.
I hear a lot of people blaming one party when they should be blaming them all.
One person is not responsible for the current state of our country.
It was a long time in the making yet a lot of the same old politicians hold office. At my age I am just breaking out into the real world and even I can see that things suck.

Polluted water?

Maybe that's why the death rate in NY and NJ is a lot less than it is in the South?

If polluted water makes me live longer then I'm all for it.

I hope all those people "lining up" going into Mexico have proper insurance :)

Good way to get your car impounded down there is to get hit and not have an insurance policy that works in Mexico.

The cost to get such a policy would probably counteract any savings on gas there, too :)
