Cool I got my new rig in the mail today and it turned out to be the wrong radio, so back it went. Long story short my pro3 will be hear Friday.
Congrats on your 817, let me know how you like it.
Im still trying to decide between it and the 703+, but 9.9 out of 10 chance I will get the Icom.

the FT-817nd is a very nice rig, I also have it, and really love it. The only warning I'm going to give you is, one a friend gave me.

He also has an ft-817, (not the ND, older version) and he has to watch his battery level al the time, because if the battery is empty and he tries to transmit the finals burn.

I have a newer ft-817nd and don't have this problem, so i guess you also won't have the problem, my transmitter shuts down as soon as the battery is empty like it should do.

it really is a great rig :)

Very good,
Thank you for the tip my friend!

I plan to be very careful with my new baby.
I have noticed it has a few problems with the finals.
And drawing power even when it is turned off.
and also that messing with some of the factory settings can lead to disaster.
This will be my Second BRAND NEW radio in my whole two years of operating.
I did decide to keep the TS-140S as it has served me VERY well....
And recently I have found out a little quirk about this radio... or my SWR meter, For some odd reason it really likes the match of 1.5-1 instead of 1-1
and lately it has been makin me some CRACKIN new contacts.

Anyhow... still waiting for the 817! it was supposed to come tomorrow on back order but it was a no show.. hopefully it will show its face today.

Got the rig today!

Its a doozy!
the menus are gonna take a bit to get used to.. but after four hours straight of trying to figure it out I have become very proficient.
I made two CW contacts with it and tried to check into a net on 7.178
but failed..

then I fiddled around with AO-51 and just listened though...
Works pretty good for satilite work!
Anyhow.. I will keep yall updated.
Still have the Kenwood rig..
So I will try to check into the net.

On sunday?

haha,
I love it!
my new favorite thing to hear people say during field day is:

"QSL I copy 1AAB, And are you sure your QRP?"

Made a buch of contacts on battery power (2.5W) with a 10m antenna clipped to a peice of wire to make the SWR go down on 20m

its a smooth little rig now that I got it all set up.
The menu's were VERY easy to get used to.
And as for the buttons they seem to fit my fingers okay..
Sept for that little finger dimple on the tuning knob... but I dont use it anyway.

Will catch you guys on the net or on FD
