Well to all who may read this that knew the BIG MAN, as I did....

I meet Willy Gill app 20 years back, he lived in a small farm house in Comber co down, will Kate his wife and his two sons Willy and John..
I used to call every Suday night to Willys house to play pool in his wee back room, myself wee BOSS WHITE and the roller man...you know who you are.

We done lots of buying and selling PRUCK as we used to call it, we had the odd fallout from time to time but always made up.
I recall one night he walked out from my home over a sour deal and the man he was, never talked to me for months, I also recall the time Willy was very sick in his bed and I drove around the county side to buy him a radio to pass time.

Willy was a big man carried alot weight, we named him THE DIRTY OLD MAN, that was also his CB HANDLE, he lost alot weight over the past years due to health, when I seen him at a radio rally I did not know him, he looked so much better for it.

myself and WILLY were heavy into sat TV and receiving pics from all over the world, I can recall the time we setup a dish and got several different sats from across the arc from sticking him arm out the window and moving the dish, we sat up all night playing with the receivor.

We drifted apart as we got older, I heard John his son had passed away from a car crash, I was lost for words, such a nice wee boy...

I was knocked for six when I was told just last month May 2008 that willy has passed away with a heart attack, I still cant beleive it to be honest, last time we spoke on the phone, he decided to come back to ham radio and setup the echolink gateway, we had a brief chat and that was the last words we had..

You really dont know what anyone means to you untill they are no longer with us, willy and I had alot good times, I can recall many..

I have a tears in my eyes as I type this WILLY I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE A TEAR FOR YOU BIG MAN, I will miss you alot....

Fellow hams TAKE NOTE tomorrow is promiseed to no one, I lost another dear friend the same way WILLY PAST GI7OKJ

I hope you two are being good up above,

WILLY THANKS FOR THE GOOD TIMES, hope we meet again

Mark Laffey, France and Jessica

We will look after your loved ones
