I'll bet dollars to donuts that no hard evidence that he actually was the so-called '9/11' mastermind shows up.
Yea, there's some links that say he confessed to being just that, but that's all.
He knows a good thing...he knows he's screwed...might as well go down as a hero and claim martyrdom. He knows that the people who want us to believe that he is the mastermind will play right into his hands and put him up on the world's stage.
But even if he was the mastermind, he did far less damage to us than what saddam did.
These guy aren't stupid. We probably are.

1) The fact that we are not privy to the evidence does not mean there is no evidence.
2) If, in fact, there is documentary evidence, it will probably be in Arabic.
3) If there is documentary evidence in Arabic, the same people who say there is no evidence now will say "How do we know it's translated correctly?" when the Arabic evidence is presented.
4) Do you seriously believe they just picked up a shopkeeper at random with intent to railroad him?

While I am not one to support granting wishes to radical extremist terrorists I'll make an exception in this case. I hope he gets his wish----soon.

He *wants* to be killed. I say we put him in prison for life and parade him around on a dog collar nekkid each day at noon downtown. Killing him is too easy. We learned the hard way, unfortunately, that if you *really* want to get to these folks craw, you *humiliate* them!
Life without parole with daily humiliation. You wanna see some terrorist Arabs get their panties in a wad?? Just try that! ;)

That won't accomplish the goal, either. The result of the Abu Ghraib photos in the Arab world was not fear or wilting, but outrage and increased determination, and a daily or weekly parade of humiliation would just keep stoking the fire. Doing the same privately would only firm up his conviction that he is in the hands of the Great Satan, and he'd come to be certain he was a martyr.
If you want to nullify someone, you isolate them, and let the limitations of human memory do the rest.
