After a few Neanderthalian/Cro-Magnon responses to my technical article on that "OTHER" ham radio forum, I've decided that the entire exercise is PBS....pearls before swine. How people can take a perfectly non-controversial technical instructional topic like amplifier feedback and make it a political diatribe is beyond me. Perhaps R.F. exposure IS detrimental to the brain, after all. Oh well. I shall concentrate on getting my Opus finished and published. At least that way I can get paid BEFORE I get slathered in idiocy.

Now you know.

Speaking of which, if anyone has any final contributions to make to the Opus, speak up!

I noticed it and it was on my reading list. Now I'll have to back and have a look. I was a bit surprised to see it though as even though Eham has such a nice format for articles, they're seldom technical.

I cannot ignore the irony here. Negative feedback on an article concerning Negative feedback.

I found the article. I enjoyed it for it's own.

I do remember reading somewhere that negative feedback was not a good thing. Or a cheap alternative to a different method?

Over there there are too many 'purists' who pick apart every little thing that goes against THEIR established theories.

Why do you think I spend my time here now??

Although the "feedback" I received from my first article on bandwidth versus keying speed last year on eHam wasn't quite at the level you describe above, I understand where you are coming from! Even after I posted a second article including experimental data that clearly confirmed my "theoretical" calculations showing that the occupied bandwidth (as defined by the FCC) of a CW signal does vary with the keying speed, there were still a few so-called "experts" who considered my two eHam articles "garbage." My personal reaction was similar to yours (pearls before swine). My day job gives me ample opportunities to teach and write. There's really no need for me to post on-line articles of a technical nature.

I saw that too and enjoyed the irony of negative feedback on an article about negative feedback.

Priceless.

The thing that gets me the most is the number of people who feel they need to grade the paper. Spelling, grammar, writing style and on and on..........they make no comment whatsoever about the subject (probably over their heads) and procede to say how much it sucked because of the "way" it was written.

It's ludicrous.

I don't know KL7AJ but I've read a lot of his stuff and his history and this is a dude that knows what he's talking about. On top of that, he's a published author. We should be thanking these people for taking the time. There is a post here on the Zed that refers to something he said about an antenna as nonsense. THATS NONSENSE!!

KL7AJ, W8JI....... theres a couple others that escape my memory right now but I see these 2 the most on the most difficult and technical of issues...these people are gold.

Pearls before swine is correct. But please please please don't stop writing and teaching. For every bloviating blowhard knowitall with an opinion, there are hundreds of us that appreciate the hell out of it.

Sorry that turned into a rant. I'm deep into an interesting little Malbec from Argentina and the fingers are a little loose.

But I meant what I said.

I liked your thorough explanation. It enhanced my understanding of the topic.

Sorry you had that experience, but there are negative folk everywhere.

BTW, Glimmertrain apparantly didn't like my story. Too masculine and not wordy enough, I suppose.

Life goes on.

When I start reading some of these threads, it's like walking into a theatre halfway through the movie !
I diidn't even know there was another ham forum.
I also have some stories about running a single 6AQ5 tube in a 50 watt RF power amplifier mode, in the early 60's, if that would interest you .....

PBS = Pearls before Swine. Good! You do know there's another meaning--something that applies more often than not over at that other site-- PURE BULL SH*T! Which is what some of the responses were.

Like I said, why do you think I spend more time over here now?? :D
