I don't know if this is the right place for this, if not I apologize for putting it here. As a new Ham, I am very disapointed in the treatment of the folks at "the hamshack" proboards
site in the denial of my request to join their board . I am new and want to learn more about ham radio and figured it would be a good place to start, along with the ARRL (member) and QRZ (member)
I may have made a mistake in applying but I was told that the forums and boards are a gret place to start before I get my radio gear. I have found QRZ and ARRL sites a great help and the members are great in helping me with questions.
I am not some kid that just got on the bus, I am a 59 year old grandfather so I have been around the block at least once. I would like to know from you folks if this was a good idea in applying to "The hamshack".
Again thank you for your help.

From reading what you posted they only denied your membership because you did not sign up using your callsign you instead signed up using the name "Bruce". I'd try again with my callsign.

Note: I am not a member there and have never heard of the place, only going from what has been posted.

Don't worry about it. They are all losers if they started a ham radio website and then they denied your account. If you really want to find a place to post in addition to the zed, you can visit sites such as gokarters.com/vbforum and hamisland.net - both of which have some very nice people. Gokarters even has an elmer forum that I think you would like.

That's what I think as well.

Sir, relax... It is there website, and they can do what they want, just like at Zed or any other website.

You just called a group of people losers because there requested protocol was not followed! And... you somehow slipped into the position of "DX Helper" here. Since you are, you must bear in mind, statements you make automatically become the reflection of the QRZ staff.

Just trying to help-

Is DX-Helper better or worse (doesn't seem possible) than tuna-helper?

The site sucks for two reasons, one being that you have to register before you can look the place over to see if it's a decent place or a site infested by losers.

Secondly, any site with a black background speaks volumes about the owner. I don't care for seeing 5 minutes worth of afterimages afer checking out.

Don't forget the spinning CQ images. Although, the ZED is not exactly "modern."

Dang, I missed those.

I swear the site had a pure black background, but now it's showing clouds and blue, (apparently the background image was slow in coming), so the white and blue fonts on the bottom of the page really stand out.

I might owe them an apology for making sport of the black background, but maybe not, since I can't see how a thread looks.

No, the Zed isn't modern, in the sense that the phBBB code has been around a while, but I like good old standard black letters on an (almost) white background .

Cal, what have you been into (smoking) lately ?

Pretty obvious that 'Bruce' would be welcome on the ham site he is quoting if he would register with his ham call......

Not sure, but I have a little bit of a feeling that a 'Gokart' forum might get real tired of ME if I started to ask questions and kept talking about Barbie Doll dress designs......

Doesn't make them bad folks, just that the topic would be inappropriate to the forum...

My GUESS is that the simple screening process for this ham radio site is to request that members be hams.....
Bruce probably just needs to re-register with his call.....Again, pretty basic stuff.

Lol, that may be true, however I like black.
My cloths are black, red, or blue as is my web site.
Well actually the text is crimson to be precise.
I guess its just a mater of opinion.
Congradulations you made me crack a smile, not an easy task by far.
I guess I have a strange sense of humor.

Everyone was doing black around 95. Black makes things hard to read, there is research supporting this, don't make me look it up.

You don't have to look it up I'm not disagreeing.
I as well as others like the colour (color) black.
It's nothing more and nothing less.

Bruce

Bruce,
Welcome to ham radio. My advice would be to search out local hams or a ham club to help you as a new ham. You wont regret it.
Good luck,
Will

I'm going to close this one. QRZ.COM is not the place to bash other sites for whatever reason. I don't care to see this site bashed elsewhere and I'm sure the owners of the site in question feel the same way about their own.
