It is always sad when someone gives up and ends it all.

One might instead say that she eluded a sentence she thought worse than dying. Suicide is the last choice one will ever make, of course, but it is a choice when others fail.

I did hear that she was looking at up to 50 years in prison, that's the equivalent of a death sentence to anyone that values their freedom and doesn't want to rot in a cell until the day they die. Still, it is ashame, not only this instance but anyone that has to take that last resort. I've known more than one person, including a close relative, that made that choice, most times it is a complete waste of a life, and of course the lives that they impact along the way.

It also says a lot about the backwards ways that we deal with the notion of 'vice' in this country. Counter-productive and ineffective for the most part. Someday maybe, just maybe this country may realize that attempting to legislate morality just doesn't work, and in most cases just creates a much worse underworld and black market. All those moral crusaders out there pushing so hard for a 'clean' society, in all actuality they are only driving those activities underground.

I was also wondering about the 50 years in prison. Is that the usual punishment for running a brothel? What happened to her list of clients, some of whom were politicians? I can not imagine 50 years. There must be more to it. I am not in favor of prostitution (as some of our elected officials seem to be) but 50 years does not seem to make sense. I guess there may have been a wide variety of charges. I see where her 76 year old mother found the body. Bad situation all the way around. How much time does a street hooker or pimp get for doing much the same thing? I bet it is not 50 years.
