Iraq's government is expected to reap a $70 billion windfall from soaring oil prices, about double the previous projections. The price per barrel has more than doubled since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, with both Republicans and Democrats raising complaints that U.S. taxpayers are footing the bill for reconstruction work in the now-flush nation.
There's more at the door, there's more... (http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/04/29/iraq.windfall/index.html?eref=rss_topstories)

in the now-flush nation.
Appropriate description, Iraq certainly is a toilet of a nation.

Well, I'm not really surprised that these numbers are continuing to climb. I posted a link to an article about this in March: Iraq faces budget surplus, US huge deficit (http://forums.qrz.com/showthread.php?t=155680)
Seems like it's only getting worse. All at our expense of course. Oy...
When did we lose focus on the 'war on terror' for all of this nonsense in Iraq? Of course it's now too late to just leave, but damn, what a mess. And an expensive mess at that.

None of that matters anymore. What's important to consider now is the burden we leave our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to deal with.
We will likely go down in history as the most selfish, arrogant, stupid, ignorant generation of Americans in history. Along with the stupidest, most arrogant, war mongering idiot of a president who led us into this sewage pit.
Mission Accomplished. Generations of Americans to follow will hate us for what we've done.

Well, where is it?
Still in the ground due to "unforseen" (by the Republicans at least) difficulties, pipeline disruptions and refinery sabotauge.
But that treaty Dick and George are trying force on them that gives the US corporations (you know like Dicks company, er... I mean old company...) exclusive rights to the countries oil field development is still alive.
So there's still hope we can steal it all yet!

I guest that makes them "the stupidest, most arrogant, war mongering idiot(s)" Senators "who led us into this sewage pit" too. Remember: a president can do nothing without consent of Congress and the Senate.
Luke, I have no problems with your opposition to a war you feel is wrong. However, may I suggest a LIBERAL (:D) application of fairness when opining on such matters.
You also overlook history. You may feel President Bush "mislead" us into war, but he was looking at intelligence provided by George Tenant, a Clinton Administration "holdover". President Clinton himself thought that "Bootlicker" had WMDs. When we peel this "onion" and get to the core issue concerning the mess in Iraq, you will find it was George Tenant and the CIA who did the misleading.
You know better. Whatsamattawidcho?

Yes, this is fair, but we'll include every Republican member of Congress as well, as all of them voted to grant Bush the authority.
Additionally, Bush gets the gold star, for being the self proclaimed "decider", and rendering the final decision.
There's ample blame for this fiasco to go around. And I do agree with what you're saying.
In a conservative manner as well. ;)

Actually the CIA told bush that the information was not sound and to take out the part about WMD because it could not be verified, but DICK was being a DICK and forced it to stay in. BUSH the worse has lead us into the middle of another war like NAM. He only has about another 55000 American deaths and he will catch up.
Bush the Worse, worse President in American History.

Yes sir, no doubt about that. However, it was based on the information that was given by George Tenent. He resigned over it. Remember?
Luke,
You and I are not that far apart on this issue. I will agree that the war is a mess. I will also agree that there enough blame to go around. Let's all get together and see what can be done to get us out of this mess without jeopardizing our security at home or the lives of America's blood and treasure. What say you?

I'd say that is the best suggestion I've seen in print here in a very long time. There is no doubt about the carnage that would take place if we just pull out of Iraq, so Obama lost my vote there. There is little valid argument that the course of action we pursue today is leading us to any great success, so McCain loses my vote here. Clinton seems to be the closest to having the right approach by setting a deadline, but it should be taken to the Iraqi government in total secrecy. Put the heat on them to start taking care of their own affairs without tipping off the terrorists. Probably an impossible task given the state of the Iraqi government who has now learned how to live off one of the few remaining US government teats left. But Clinton lost my vote long ago for her bullish approach to universal health care. So, I'm out in the cold for '08.
What we need is a real leader, arrogant enough to knock a few heads together, and slap this country out of the partisan bickering mode, strong enough to stand up to the corporate criminals really running the country, and wise enough to see the need to integrate this country into what is becoming a global economy without having this macho driven need to dominate the rest of the planet. The world is changing, and we're not adapting very well to it at all. This leader must also be able to address the 1/2 dozen other pressing issues facing this country. We all know what they are.
Is there such a person? Someone who can unite the country without the benefit of another terror attack to motivate?
Who knows. I've resigned myself to the hard truth that I won't live to see the tide turned.
You and I can agree Gary, but the posts to follow will vividly illustrate what a very long journey is in front of us. Partisan spewage to follow ... no doubt.

Sadly, I think you're right. <sigh>
