SDR receiver on the web

Take a look at this new web-based software defined radio.

Run by the University of Twente's amateur radio club in the Netherlands, the system allows you to tune over either the 40 or 80 metre bands.

What makes this system different from other web-based receivers is, that thanks to the use of Software-Defined Radio technology, this receiver can be tuned by multiple users simultaneously.

When tuning around a band, you can either enter a frequency directly, or click-drag on the frequency scale. Bandwidth can also be controlled, either by the button options, or by click-dragging on the passband edges of the frequency scale.

The web page also features a log book, a list of connected users and a chat facility. Additional bands are planned for the future.

All in all, a very impressive system, and well-worth a look. Click here (http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/)

I'm not really up to speed on the SDR thing, BUT... I showed this to my Grandson and it was enough to make him want to get his ticket ( Of course a well stocked Ham Shack kinds helps too.) I showed him were to take practice tests on the QRZ site, Plus I'm reading all I can about Software Defined Radio.

Kind of like taking out 2 birds with one web site eh?:D

Cool! Vry cool!

What is the physical location of the receiver?

I need to Google 'softrock'!

Look for a Yahoo group at groups.yahoo.com called softrock40. I just finished building a little SDR transceiver that Tony sells there for $30, it covers the cw portion of 40m and 80m. I just got the tx going this afternoon, putting out about a watt. Very cool! You need a fairly decent computer and sound card to run it but if you already have the computer where else can you get a 2 band transceiver kit for $30? The little receiver-only kits are approx $9, and they are a great way to not only learn about software defined radios but also to get started in surface mount parts. The little bitty parts aren't as bad as I expected but at 48 I did just buy my first pair of reading glasses...

Just joined Tony's Yahoo group and looking forward to the production units.

Wonder if the folks in the NL would mind sharing the web code?

AWESOME!!

Better than Bowling Elves, better than the Christmas light show on the guy's house set to music, it is even better than Chocolate Rain!!!

Man - the possibilities. I read somewhere of the concept of a "reverse beacon" setup - and this could do it. Imagine you send a quick ID on some frequency and you have a 5 of these websites open, connected from 5 different locations thoughout the world and all tuned to your transmit. In an instant, you can check your own ability to "get out"...

ahhh.....
