FYI

I spoke with Yaesu and they are discontinuing their rotator line. They don't carry parts and don't repair them so AVOID them.

Nice rotators but pi**poor support from Yaesu to say the least.

WOW! Thats going to be a big blow to alot of the Sat. operators. There rotors were the Cadillac for AMSAT operators. I am a big believer in Yaesu equiptment. What do you recommend now for a rotor and thoughts?

Crap. I have one of those sitting in the closet waiting for me to finish piecing the satellite station together.

And I doubt there's a large enough market for an enterprising ham to step in with making replacement parts? Or is there?

Iuse Yaesu rotator G-800DXA and not yet had any problem with it since I install it in Novermber 2008, I hope it will remain this way.

Thank you for the information my friend and wishing you all of the best

My G-800SA got some lightning into it via an indirect route and fried the control unit board. I was told that rotor repair shows don't touch them because they (Yaesu) use their own parts. The Regulator is your basic LM7812 which is about as generic as you get.

However, the control board had an arc from the metal casing to the bottom of the board and fried some traces and some SMT components.

Of course, Yaesu wouldn't offer the board, or the parts. So it is now junk.

I like the unit much better then the Ham IV which I have had for years, but they are now well over $500. I liked the Yaesu because you didn't have to dink around with a manual brake release and had quick disconnect right on the rotor.

Anyway, live and learn. Have to get a generic rotor from now on, which leaves only the CDE/HYGAIN brand.

Friends,

I am not sure who Chris spoke to but his posting stating that Yaesu is discontinuing sales and support of our Rotor line is most certainly incorrect. I will contact Chris direct to see what I can do to help him out with his specific rotor challenge.

Like any company who has been in business 50+ years, we do have some older products that use components that are no longer manufacturered. We do everything we can to find new sources when that situation arises however, at times, we are not lucky with the search.

By the way, our relationship with Motorola is exactly like they said it would be during the very first announcements; Yaesu continues to function and move forward exactly as before.

Straight from Jerry Darby's email to W1PE

"No we aren't going out of the rotor business" . We do have the connectors for the DXA series rotors in stock.

::But it's getting close. I assume Rashed will be putting up that rotator in another two months and let us know how it goes.:)
