That's true. Who was the first person to ride his or her capsule all the way down to a landing on the earth?

I remember all space program since the begining in 1957 with launch of Sputnik by the USSR when I am working as RADIO OPERATOR in Brazilian Army. I remember also the U. S. program since Atlas, Mercury, Gemini, and the famous Apollo. My congratulations for this operation in commemoration to the historic event!

Sheppard was sub orbital, but rode the capsule all the way
Glenn was first American orbital to ride his capsule all the way
First Russians were a 3 man crew in Voskod 1 in 1964 : Feoktistov (http://www.astronautix.com/astros/feoistov.htm), Komarov (http://www.astronautix.com/astros/komarov.htm), Yegorov (http://www.astronautix.com/astros/yegorov.htm). As all single person Vostok missions the occupant was ejected.
There has been a long running argument that Gagarin's flight didn't count as the occupant had to start and finish the "flight" in the craft and the fact he ejected was a secret for many years.
