Anybody have a pair of old drive-in movie speakers? Maybe even the pole they hung on? I don't care if they work or not, I'll replace the speakers...my wife would just like to find a pair of these speakers. Since she buys and drags home old and antique table/floor model radios for me, I figure it's the least I can do is find her some of these speakers!

Please contact me at melvin.stacey@cummins.com...thanks, 73! Bud

I think most places have gone to FM modulators, if they even have them anymore. A lot of the local ones are gone. Even the one in Marysville that I used to see driving to my parents became a gas station/stores about 2 years ago.

Might be a tough find, at least for authentic. I'm sure someone makes replicas....

I have some at my qth but if you do a search on Ebay you will be able to find some there. Also check your local flea markets and junk dealers as they have them from time to time.
However the ones I have are negotiable. Drop me a line and we can discuss it.

That they're not 4 or 8 ohm speakers, don't you? I think they're more like 40 ohms and have a set if wires for an electomagnetic coil instead of a permanent magnet.

Good Luck in your search.

The pair I had were very small. I found them in a antique shop with no speaker in them at all. They were made of stamped steel not the really cool cast aluminum ones. The original {for all I know} volume control was still fastened to the fronts. I didn’t use them but left them intact for appearances and so I wouldn’t have another hole to fill.

The largest speaker I could jam in them was a square frame Radio Shack four inch with IIRC six ounce magnets.

The speakers did have a whizzer cone but really sounded like crap. My car system at the time had around 25 watts per channel and would easily over drive the little speakers.

Maybe if you find a pair you could stuff the newer sub woofers in them. Or just use a lower power amplifier to drive them.
