The Yaesu FT-60 is a really good radio to start out with. It is a very reliable radio!

I'm a big fan of Icom and Kenwood. Out of all of my 20+ radios I have owned, here are my favorites... Icom IC-Z1A dual band HT, Icom IC-V8000, Icom IC-T90A tri band HT, and the Kenwood TS-430S.

I am also into Motorola gear. My current Motorola radio is the GP300 :)

I'm a strange one,as much as I love my Icom 703 I have a very special place in my heart for my late 40's vintage Hammarlund HQ-129X.

I prefer a Heathkit or Drake for low bands and a Motorola HT for VHF.

Well, I really like my Sommerkamp FL-101 and FR-101.

Here you can see them: My Homepage/Radios (http://www.mydarc.de/df1fn/Radios.html)

They're old, but they work very well.
I also operated on a modern TRX (Kenwood TS-850s) at a friends QTH, but I haven't liked the sound of the NF-output.
The NF of these old Sommerkamp radios sounds much better, and the FL-101 has a impressive 100W tube PA.

Yep, me too. I guess my sickness rubbed off on you!

I love my Kenwood TS480SAT for HF but for all else it's Motorola. I even have Motorola gear on 10m FM.

Yaesu FT-1000MP V

I definently love Icom the best. I have a Motorola Spectra in the car and it has great audio and all but i still think a simple 65 watt Icom 2200h is just as good.

I like Yaesu rigs, especially the earlier models with tube finals, like my FT-101 and FT-901DM. I like the 901 more though, because it's got real transmitting tubes in it, not sweep tubes, and has some newer feature than the 101. Also like my VX-170 for two meters

I've had mostly Yeasu equiptment including the FT 736,990 and Ft 50R all held there own. I had an older TH?? kenwood 2M HT when first licensed in the mid 80's worked ok but audio was bad.. My true favorite is my Motorola Saber (3) great radio, but can't program easy.

:D My favorite radio was a Kenwood TS-530GP. My current radio is a Kenwood TS-570S and it is a good rig but, it just doesn't have the magic classic appeal of the older Kenwoods.

I have to say that although the newer rigs are nice, my uncles HW-101 was wicked awesome (Uhh ohh..... it's my bostonian side coming out!), and nothing beats working the kits and homebrew stuff ive built... our Kenwood TS-440 is amazing. It feels really nice operating... it's a solid rig IMHO

I haven't gotten a radio. I am only a tech and I am 16 but right now I am looking at the icom 2200H and the 2820H. the 2200 is a single bander 2m 65w and the 2820 is a dual band dual watch 2m and 70cm with 50w on both bands. Hey KE7RBF you wouldnt be in oregon would you

That would depend on which OM you ask!

ve6wtf

no really! Im serious.

Basic=Tech right?
Basic Plus=? Basic Plus is a basic that completed the test with better than 80 percent and is granted HF privi's
Basic & 5wpm morse=? A Basic who has completed competancy with 5wpm morse code and is granted HF privi's
Basic & 12wpm =? Same as above but more bragging rights
Basic & Advanced. Allowed to build transmitters, operate repeaters and operate with 1000 watts PEP (HF privies thrown in)
Basic & Advanced & Morse Code Same as above.......

Or

Basic & (+) & Advanced & Morse Code.... (Everything, plus bragging rights)

What are the levels for you guys?

Tech
General?
Extra?

Chris, I have been a Kenwood fan ever since I bought that TS530SP back in the mid to early 1980's. As far as Motorola goes, I kind of got hooked from the job since most of our radio's were Moto's

Yes Tech, General, Extra.

If you go back in time a few years it was more like this.
Novice (well more than a few years for this one:D)
Tech
Tech +
General
Advanced
Extra

I actually have 2 favorite radio's. One of them is the Motorola Motrac (it's Crystalled for 52.5250 MHZ of course) as it has great FM audio for 6 Meters. Almost sound like it's HIFI, No wonder the CHP used them in their cars in the 1960's. My other favorite radio is the Motorola Spectra VHF Hi Band Radio. The only back drop is it uses software to program the channels, and P.L tones.
