KE5NYC-Bill West, Rockport, TX -October 14, 1943 -March 24, 2008
William Jamison "Pa Pa Willie" West, 64, formerly of Lexington, died Monday morning March 24, 2008 in his Rockport, Texas home following a long illness.

He was born October 14, 1943 in Mansfield, and was graduated from Lexington High School in 1961. Active with the Boy Scouts of America, William earned his Eagle Scout, as well as the God & Country Award.

Following high school, William spent four years with the U.S. Air Force garnering mechanical, electrical and administrative training. He was honorably discharged as an airman.

He started to work as an installer and repairman with United Telephone of Ohio, and retired from Sprint with 28 years of service, working in the warehouse.

William was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church, V.F.W. Post #5101, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union local #688, and volunteered for the Richland County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

He was active with the former Richland County (Mounted Posse, and served with the Lexington Police Auxiliary and Troy Township Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad.

Shortly after William earned certification as an EMT, he and his wife moved to Rockport Texas, where he served on the Flour Bluff (Corpus Christi) Volunteer Fire Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla #711 -Corpus Christi,

He is survived by his wife Frances Ann (Burford) West, whom he married October 15,1966; a daughter Shirley West of Rockport, Texas, a son-in-law Alan Sell of Columbus; and a granddaughter Samantha Sell.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sydney A. and Elizabeth R. (Williams) West; and a daughter Stephanie (West) Sell.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 28, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. His brother-in-law the Rev. Dr, Sherman Burford will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park, where American Legion Post #535 will hold graveside military honors.

Memorial contributions to West Acres Stables may be made at the funeral home.
