The 2200H is the base rig here.I love it.The other has a fan and more power but reviews I have read indicate it is less reliable. The front firing speaker is nice, but I use phones on mine so no issue there.I doubt the extra power would be noticeable, so save some money and get the 2200H.It is superb.

I've got both. They are both fine rigs. I use the v8000 in the house and the 2100 (earlier model) in the car.

Never had a lick of trouble with either. Both seem to receive very well.

If I had to pick *one* I would go with the v8000. You can always run medium power if reliability is a concern but you would have the 70watts out as a backup if you ever needed it.

In another thread by the same dude, we have to choose between a 229H and the 2200...now it is between the 2200 and the v8000.

Just go ahead and buy a 2200 and get all of it over with.

sheesh !!!

Neither... A used Icom 2800H would be the best VHF/UHF fixed station rig you could find.
I have a few of them one is still brand new in the box. They can't be beat for fixed station used..
I have the main body mounted under the desk and use a simple cat 5 cable as an extension.
The remote front panel is a joy to look at and providers more info then almost any other rig on the market.

The best part is how easy it is to mount and how little desk space it uses. Combine the 2800H with an ICOM 706xxx and you can have a very clean compact station.

The problem is they are very popular and fetch a very high price. I've seen them sell used between $350 and $550. Are they worth it ? Even if I could get $550 for mine I would not part with a single one of them. I even had a local ham offer to trade me a fully loaded FT-1000MP Mk V for 3 of them, I said no way!!

An Icom 2800H alongside an Icom 7000 would make one sweet mobile or base setup
