absolutely - congrats!
don't fall into the pit of spending boatloads of money on your first rig.
Try a few, get involved with a club, meet people as well (field day is great for this).
You can try out many rigs and find something that suits your style.
Then again, last year, I got hooked on QRP and build cw rigs for 15 bucks and up!
Again, congrats and have fun!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Man I sure do remember the night I passed my GENERAL. I was on cloud nine. I waited nearly 20 years to go from Technician to General. I saw someone on the swapshop selling a Kenwood TS-2000 for 1000 dollars. That's a pretty good deal. I really like my TS-2000. Once you learn how to work the DSP properly it really helps clean up the audio. Lots of bells and whistles for the buck.
Good luck on what you get, and hope to work you on the air some time.

Congratulations. Just remember to stay away from people who say that you have to remove the rubber covering from a wire for it to radiate properly, and those that say copper wire corrodes faster, that's why I go building DIAPOLES with stainless steel.
I prefer a DIPOLE made of copper wire, it's more readily and commonly available.
