Well, as if I don't already have enough things to take up my spare time, I've started doing oil paintings of my vintage radio equipment. Here's my Heathkit Warrio...should be done with a couple more layers. I'm going to do my Johnson Ranger next.

Hmmm....wonder if I could make a living at this?

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey that's pretty freaking awesome... I think you'd be able to find some people to buy your work. how many people have oil paintings of vintage radio gear hanging on their wall. Afterall among all of the "wallpaper" ie certificates and qsl cards, a painting like that is perfect for a hamshack.

Well, thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. I'll see what sort of response I get here. Maybe I could do a few from photos on commission. :)

Decided to do my Johnson Matchbox, too. This is just a preliminary 'dead layer."

In case you're interested, this is one of my non-ham paintings. It's from a scene in my novel, Plasma Dreams.

My Shure 51 mic is going to be a real challenge. Chrome is SO hard to paint realistically!

Could you do a painting of my wife's old washing machine ? I think she would like a picture of it on the sitting room wall !

I'm going to try and be as nice as I can here Eric. You know, a little prep goes a long way. Next time you paint one of your rigs you might wan't to sand it down and apply a coat of primer first. Not that they look bad mind you but I just think the finish would be a little smoother. :D

Here is my oil painting, titled FIELD DAY.
I made the Tribander unusually large and thick so it could be seen in the pic, so that is out of scale. Need to redo it someday. Maybe its a 3 element 80 meter beam (held up on a push up mast, HI!) I really like painting but just can't find the time to do it anymore. I need to be retired so I have countless hours with nothing to do!

This is the kind of realism you don't see very often. A painting of a rig with a painting in front of it. Excellent. :)

AH LOVES IT! thanks for daring to do something.....a little bit different.
i do a bit of painting myself, only i'm alien oriented. aliens, alien landscapes, alien environments, the usual. was a feller in eurpoe named diego back in the 1800's who inspired me (some say corrupted).

whoops, sorry 'bout the "eurpoe", i meant europe. wow, i got the wrong spelling in my head and had to try 3 times to get it right.

whoa, now you got me thinking------about the plasma antennas. could these be formed into coors signs or something? no-one would ever guess.

You could put these on Ebay. How much will you bid for a painting of this man's Johnson?

Umm if you had a painting of MY "johnson" it would be listed in the Adult section!

hey! you're pretty good, too! i don't think the antenna is out of perspective- it's just a monster, like you see in the qst ads. the ones with the outrageous claims. "yep, this baby'll drag in allll the dx, on all freqs from dc to light (now we're back to plasma antennas), even alpha centauri, with a little help from a brazilian* watt amp, yessir, 300k dbd!"
alls you needed in the pic was an alien looking in a tent.

*apologies to the bush- the reference was from a joke. gwb was in his morning meeting, looking over the report. he read that 3 brazilian troops had been killed in fighting in eye-rack. got all shook up, tears forming. with a quaver in his voice he asked "how many is a brazilian?"

This is one of my earlier paintings. I know, I know, it's a bit crude but I didn't have good lighting.

So, thisnk I have a shot at artdom? I would really appreciate any feedback.

Hmmmm . . . I'd rather look at the original.

BTW, did you know that Vincent Van Gogh only sold ONE painting during his lifetime. In other words, don't quit your day job.
