View Full Version : America Loses 40,000 Jobs Thanks to McCain
As the US economy sputters, can America afford to export over 40,000 manufacturing jobs to France? Sen. John McCain sure seems to think so. He helped the US military choose the French company AirBus for a contract estimated at more than $40 billion -- a contract that could have generated over 40,000 jobs here at home, in the USA.

Ummmm! I though all wrongs of the US was because of Bush. Isn't the majority of the work going to be in Alabama? How is that exporting American jobs?

Since this hits close to home with me, here is the TRUTH about the matter:
Despite Boeing's claims, the selection of Northrop Grumman/European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. does not send a single job overseas. In fact, it expands the American industrial base by 48,000 new direct and indirect jobs; 230 suppliers in 49 states will be involved in building the KC-45. This is truly an American plane.
Since losing the tanker competition, Boeing has argued the security dangers of allowing companies from our ally nations to participate in manufacturing military craft. That's certainly an amazing position, considering that Boeing currently is partnering with Italy's Alenia Aeronautica in producing the C-27J cargo aircraft for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army.]

It sucks to lose your job, my family has been affected by this game.
However, as a US taxpayer, I demand the most for my money. Boeing lost.

Perhaps some folks up north don't know that Alabama is part of the US of A

Actually like SVA pointed out jobs are staying in the US. NCR -- hopefully some of the folks impacted can find new homes within this contract.
(sure would like to see the Request for Proposals and notes that went into this final decision, now that would make for one heck of a post)

What did Hillary or Obama do to stop this? Was this something outside of their span of control, or did they simply miss the vote?

No Lets say George H W Bush, then all the congress people(republican and democrats) that decided that it was for the best of the US. Bill signed it, George started it.
So lets say everyone in the US, since we voted all the bozo's into office.

Ain't it great that two lobbyist who worked to get the Airbus deal through work for McCain's campaign now.

Wow what and excellent president this guy is going to be, NOT! Heck by the time he is done with us even Nanook of the north (aka Frozen Steve) might be willing to vote for a Democrat in 2012.

Fact: Lobbyists are "hired gun" contractors, working by the hour. Their talent is extraordinary and their income is based on previous results-oriented actions.
I'm glad that campaigns are hiring results-oriented people with a background in governmental affairs.

I never did understand how comparing one bad move to another made either any good. Yet people love to compare Clinton's stupid moves to Bush's stupid moves, meanwhile they all have agendas that have little to do with the interests of "the people" and the betterment of the majority in this country.

I at first thought that the new planes would be flown here from France and then just converted to tankers. As it turns out, Northrop Grumman will be importing the components to Mobile,AL and assembling the new planes in 2 plants there. The total number of new American jobs added will indeed be 40k. So it all boils down this way to me after listening to all the chatter about the whole thing. The USAF gets the planes at a $67b savings over what Boeing offered, Boeing is hiring at this time and is back logged on the planes they already have contracts on, and indeed American jobs will be added not lost. I can't see any downside to this deal and I'm usually anti-import as !@#$.

Not only that but during WW 1 the army purchased French machine guns. You know the ones that would jam after 5 or fewer rounds. We all know where that money went.

The use of foreign owned defense sub-contractors is not new. Currently being done with the Joint Strike Fighter and the Navy's new Littoral Combat Ship.

Brett,
Actually I did a poor job of pointing out this is not one persons or administrations fault.
Frankly it is a world market now, NAFTA would have been great if the playing fields were even, but they are not. So the net impact is jobs are being shipped overseas.
I've seen too many folks I know replaced by outsourcing..... so we are on the same page.
However, consider this. A contract this big goes through so many checks and balances it is not funny. Wonder if the same stink would be raised of Lockheed Martian won the award.................

Hello.
The French produced AN/PRC-148 is, well, produced by the French.
There is now, a US "model" the same thing, but assembled in the USofA.
The chipset for it is produced in China.
Only the non-US model can support 3rd party encryption modules, a concession to Motorola.
My talkie Will support Motorola encryption, this is done by inserting a Motorola encryption module, the radio makes the module feel at home.
But, the US, concerned about IP, has decided that this is not a good idea, never mind that the code is supplied by Motorola on a Motorola product.
So, the foreign product can do more than the US product, go figure.

Demented NeoKon math and logic. Most of the sewage spewed by this Momma's boy bed wetter is directly attributed to the repubicants actions over the past 8 years.
Nice try, Mr. cyborg link-bot, but this is another failure. The uber right sewage plant noise machine will try over and over to place the blame for the horrendous failures of the repubicants elsewhere as November approaches.
I will give it to you that congressional pay raises were linked more to the spineless dumbocrips than the repuicants.
Only the severely mentally challenged believe the price of oil can be blamed on any one entity. You may wish to read the current thread covering this topic, so as to understand the truth.
Oh, My! I'm sorry. You can't handle the truth. You live in the land of links.

Hypocrisy from the Right, there's something you don't see every day. Every second, maybe, but certainly not everyday.

I had heard the initial "quote" blaming the selection on McCain's efforts somewhere in the media or online but found that his input was more generic than the quoter indicated...took it out of context "with a twist", if you will.
Though definately not a McCain supporter, I have to say the quote and his impact on the decision was twisted just a bit.
Regarding taking jobs from the USA....I agree with most of the above opined statements but we must also remember even if the jobs are still here there is the issue with how much the big corporate money (profits) being sent to the headquarters overseas rather than being circulated in our economy. Look at NAFTA and the US companies moving their operations to another country but the big money/profits still wind up back in the pockets of the corporates here in the states (until they move their HQ somewhere else, too). (Just an example... I am NOT a NAFTA supporter, either FYI)
In other words it is a 2-headed snake.... losing jobs for the man on the street and/or losing $$$ for the corporates (in the economy) and whomever those profits would affect in our country.
Personally I only see bad and worse in our offerings this time around, at least in the "Big 2" parties...seems Washington has forgotten they work for us and not the other way around and I am not sure exactly how to change that misnomer.
Anybody have an island in the South Pacific for sale cheap??? (LOL)

I'm with ya hd, I don't see a spit of difference really at this point.
I do think McCain would be worse overall, mostly because in his aged lack of awareness he would allow the current crop of criminals to continue unchecked.
And the country does not need this to continue unchecked.
So a minuscule difference is better than no difference as far as I'm concerned.
And the Republicans keep screaming how great they are, even after all this.
It boggles the mind.

Hmmm... Let's see, since Bush took office my personal income went up 55% and my debt load has gone down an equal amount. Did Bush have anything to do with that?? Hardly. It's about self-reliance, continuing education and spending less than what I've earned.
Quit blaming the president and start looking at yourself.

Self Reliance??
Are you kidding?? Who do you think is bailing out the Stock Market, the Money Market, and numerous companies? How are you going to be self-reliant when Bush and now McCain are shipping jobs overseas?
That post is a bad joke.
Bears Stearn was SOOO self reliant eh?
