What's the news here? Doesn't everyone already know that Hannity is a hack of a "journalist", an extremist, and a hypocrite that has been busted on more than one contradiction? (Too numerous to list here.)
Also, saying that there are others from different portions of the political spectrum that are equally hypocritical or biased doesn't make Hannity any less so. Just because "everyone else is doing it" doesn't make it any less ridiculous, certainly it doesn't make it any better of journalism, if you can even call these "entertainment" shows true journalism anymore.

Hey, whatever they want to call it, I know it ain't news! Propaganda, spin, hype, sensationalism, but not really news. Interesting that most of these types of shows are on "news" networks though, both radio and TV. While the hosts themselves may not call it news it sure seems like it gets publicized and played off as news. Quite frankly, I am done with the majority of it. Some of it is entertaining, but most of it is pure garbage. I'll take a real journalist with objectivity and facts over an entertainer any day.

Uh oh, you mentioned one of those controversial subjects that are sure to get people all riled up again, the Fairness Doctrine, oh wait, I meant Echolink, sorry. (I'll stop in another time. It is nice to be able to talk on a local repeater without being a local. Just so you know, you were full quieting into whatever system you were going through even when you thought you might be noisy. Any other QRZedders on Echolink? It would be nice to talk to some of the people that hang around this wacky place.)
I don't know about the Fairness Doctrine though, it seems like it's not necessarily fair since the media is largely supply and demand driven (though these days you have to wonder how fair any of it since there is hardly any independent radio and TV due to corporate conglomerations and all the so-called de-regulation.) So, I guess what I'm saying is that if there are enough douchebags out there that want to listen to or watch Hannity and his ilk and pretend like it's news then that is their choice. I'm not one to endorse a law suppressing ultra-conservative radio (or any form of speech) just because I think it's insipid trash with little value beyond propagandist nonsense.

Liberal radio can't compete. So much for liberal popularity and ratings in a conversive, two-way format.
Why is it that conservative talk show hosts seem to get the lion's share of people who listen to politically oriented talk shows? Why do they have so much staying power? Why did Air America fail?
In our small town we have a historically very popular AM radio station that had been in business since the 1930s and that was run by a very liberal democrat from the family that owned the station since its inception. The radio station was starting to suffer the problems that most small AM radio stations were having back in the early 90s.
Listenership and advertising were declining. The owner of the station decided to dump the music format that was not performing and changed the format to a sports/talk format. The first thing she did was to pick up Rush and a counterpoint to Rush in a show called "After The Rush" hosted by Arron Harbor that came on when Rush went off. She also picked up Jim Hightower's liberal oriented show and later The Pat Buchanan show and the co-host Barry Lynn of the ACLU.
The owner of the station tried to keep a balance of Conservative and Liberal points of view, and it was a very interesting time to listen to all of the offerings she had on her station. What happened is an interesting story in itself. It seemed that advertisers lined up for advertising spots on Rush's show and Buchanan's show but did not want any adevrtising on Harbor's and Hightower's show. Several restaurants opened the so called "Rush Rooms" and they did a good business.
The county where the station is located has a huge amount of registered Democrats as opposed to very few registered republicans. To be sure, these are southern, somewhat conservative Democrats but when you look at the 80% / 20% split between the parties you have to wonder why the conservatives on the local radio station held everyone's attention and advertising. In the end the station's owner decided that she could not keep the liberal talk shows and their lack of advertising. She ended up programming only conservative talk shows and the station's fortunes turned up and she sold the station for a lot of money. The new owners have programmed it pretty much the way and the station is prosperous.
So what happened with Air America?

I don't listen to any syndicated shows. I've never been a rush fan and o'reilly annoys me, even when we agree. I'll watch hannity on tv at times.
AA's status isn't a sore spot with me. I did get a kick watching the moonbats swoon when they came on the air, then unashamedly deny they were going under, and now claim they are still a force to be reckoned with when even other moonbats don't know they still show up at times.

Then you follow it with a false proposition. A journalist is neither a "lower nor higher class distinction". If anything it's a statement of profession . And, In the context of news and information a journalist is probably considered a more desireable profession than entertainer. Has anyone done any research into the demographics of Air America ? Who listens to it and in what areas it is most prevailent.
I tend to expect that Air America does better in larger urban centers and surrounding suburbs as opposed to small towns and rural areas. And obviosly progressive listeners. Much the same as Pacifica radio tends to be more popular in populated urban areas.
