Remember this could happen to you!!

My heart goes out to the family.

OMAHA, Neb. -- A 6-year-old girl who underwent a rare transplant surgery after her intestines were sucked out in a swimming pool has died in an Omaha hospital.

Abigail was injured when she sat on a pool drain, and its powerful suction ripped out part of her intestinal tract on June 29. She underwent transplant surgery in December at the Nebraska hospital to receive a new small bowel, liver and pancreas.

Read about this a while ago. Unfortunate accident.

Not much about it to discuss, however. Another one star wonder.

KB3LAZ, this is real life you need to learn to deal with it, I have, you should.
This is a bad thing that happened, but, it should remind us all that while in a swimming pool we must be careful and be aware of the dangers that of a swimming pool.

Ask yourself this, who is accountable for this nasty thing, the pool, the parents or all or no one?

My goodness, that is very horrible way to go. God for a little girl even worse in some ways, very sorry to the family that had to deal with it, and other people who's minds are violated .

Chalk it up to "It's God's will."

Having never owned a pool, I'm a bit astonished that (pool) water pumps have that kind of power to suck organs through the skin. Is that kind of power typical?

I understand what your saying in a sense.
However you seem to have a strange fascination with death.
I also understand that death is a natural process that non of us can escape and thats fine with me. Im just curious as to why you have such an interest with subjects of this matter. Are you a coroner or a criminalist, maybe?
If not you have similar interest to those of Bundy, Gasy, Manson and Dahmer.

This is due to the fact that kids can sit on the pool "Skimmer box"on many moulded fibreglass pools,as they look like a nice little "kid-size" seat. The childs rear end seals the opening,& the resultant suction can injure the child.

There were a number of injuries in Australia from this cause about 20 years ago, until all the states made it mandatory to fit shields to prevent this.
Even old installations had to be retro-fitted this way.
the shield simply prevents the child sitting on the "Skimmer box".

Well I hope in memory of this child the goverment will make it mandatory per federal law for pool companies to outfit pools with shields like they did in Australia.

There is supposed to be a vacuum breaker device in the pool plumbing to prevent just this occurrence. New code requires it. However there is no requirement in most areas to retrofit existing installations.

This has happened several times right here in the states, once a few years ago right here in town. The little girl didn't even make it to the hospital.

I'm just curious why you ask this question. Are you new here (Feb. 2006?) or don't pay attention in class maybe?

Hello.

This is the ZED.
KG4KWW is an undertaker.
I am a translator for the DoD, normally Arabic to English, but also a member of the Saudi Arabian national guard at the same time.
Others, from all walks of life, proliferate here.
Death is a part of life, but some of us hear and see more than our fair share.

Welcome to testosterone-fueled Rag Chew forum, Travis. You'll find out soon enough that there's a wide range of personalities that post here, from the passive to the passive-aggressive to the "way out there".

>>THE<< most important thing to remember is not to take any responses to your posts in this forum seriously or personally.
