Enjoy this one. I watched the video and it made me sick. Why someone would use such knowledge and then empower additional idiots with a how-to is beyond me.
Bring out the FCC enforcement letters and DF gear.
The local fast food outlets around here use MURS for their drive thrus.
I really don't see how this is rocket science. You can (or at least used to be able to) buy MURS radios from radioshack. You don't need to modify a CB radio.

Parts of the video didn't make much sense, for example, the modified Yaesu tuned to MURS frequencies using FM and then a CB, modified to the same general frequency, using AM.

best thing to do is not try to harass . agitate or otherwise annoy the employees of such a place ...prices may go up.
These folks are just trying to make a living and you wish to annoy them when they aint done nothing TO you before ?
How would YOU like to be treated like that if you were working there ?

It's a "punk" guys, not real.
It scares me more that licensed hams think this is real than that people might actually try it.
"This crystal is used in all toasters made after the 1980's. It is a safety device."
I will not begin with the inconsistencies and problems with this video, it's obviously a joke.

That video is total BS. How can a CB operate on three times it's original freq without a complete overhaul of all tuned circuits. Besides stop and think about it for a minute. What is three times 27 MHz? I believe it works out to 81 MHz does it not? What RF service uses 81 MHz? I'll tell you, television channel 5 so even if by some miracle of miraclesthe modded CB worked all you would be doing would be causing TVI to channel 5.The voice in that video is the same as I have heard on several other youtube videos that includ such false statements about how to make a powerfull laser from a minimag flashlight(the laser diode used is NOT from a DVD burner) and that a car battery actually contains dozens of AA cell batteries. The guy that makes those videos just likes to BS and mess with peoples minds.

I remember a similar video with Mt. Dew and baking soda to make Chemlights... I guess the video has some degree of accuracy with respect to the modified Yaesu and MURS frequencies.
I never did believe the AM on FM with the CB, however, there may be a rash of destroyed CB's.

Sure the modified Yaesu would work but certainly not the CB. However like you said "there may be a rash of destroyed CB's" so maybe the video does have some merit. :D

Pretty funny, but a little early for an April Fool's joke. BTW, I noticed when he removed the crystal from the toaster that its silkscreen designator, printed on the PCB, was for a resistor: "R1". I wonder if that toaster was USB compatible? :)

What dolts.Getting kicks from tormenting fast food workers...that is just LOW.
The how to is just ridiculous, and auto-punishes anyone who tries it.In my opinion, a group of real creeps.

WAT...worked all toasters. Does my coffee maker have variable capacitor in it? Wonder if my electric can opener has any useful transistors in it?
I missed the AM CB to FM mod too...was it interesting?

The only thing more stupid than the idiocy displayed in this video is the belief that some people have that everything posted on the internet is true.

Why are people on QRZ obsessed with CB'ers?
Go build a few antennas, or something.

I really don't care that someone put a bogus "How To" video on you tube. I also don't really care about Cbers except to poke fun at them.
My real worry is that the handfull of quasi hams ( frustrated CBers) who open up their rigs for tranmitting outside of the legal amateur frequencies will do so. Eventually they will get caught but in so doing they they give the millions of good and legal operators a bad name with the public. Most people already think if you're a ham you're weird and we don't need any more bad publicity. There is plenty of bandwidth in the amateur bands and no need ( with the exception of MARS or CAP) to have a radio that transmits beyond those frequencies.

So, you're saying I can't get some parts out of my lawn mower, aquarium pump, electric knife and power painter and build a "laser"????
I'm so crushed.... :(

Hello.
I love this type of video.
The fact of the matter is that converting rigs to do out of band, to fool around with drive-thru restaurants, has been around for ages.
The CB thing is clearly a spoof, something to screw with peoples minds.
This is like the maglite LASER mod, it will NOT work with a mini-maglite, the thing will not fit!
The maglite shotgun round mod, likewise, has a key element missing.
The LASER mod does work, but one needs to use the LASER element from a writer, AND, provide a regulated power source, as well as a few other things left out.
If one follows the directions, something is going to fry, and this is a good thing in this case. :D

I prefer to build radios.

My friend, I have seen the film, the modification sound dead easy but that doesnt mean I like what I have seen at all.
Why modify CB heard all of the that bad talk while I can be on my Ham radio frequencies and meet and hear all of those polite and nice people.
You can'nt have your cake and eat it, you are a ham or not a ham, if you are a ham, can do without the CB and that sort of Modifications.
I know you are not interested in this my friend.
Wishing you all of the best

Salams.
In Saudi Arabia, CB does exist, as everywhere else, but.
A CBer is limited to,
4 watts of power.
2800 mm antenna long.
12 meters high.
And, whatever they do, it is secondary to what we Amateurs do.
In the middle east, there is no rule against Amateurs going 11 meters, but why?
Enforcement can be done by any proper authority.
Amateurs can use 11 meters, and no real limits.
I am allowed whatever powers the transmitter can do, and have "borrowed" a broadcast transmitter and put this on 11 meters once. :D
One can be a part of the art and sport of radio, or just a hydro.

Its sad there are hams that think this would work. The first big problem is the PLL on the CB wouldnt even lock, not to mention probably a half dozen tank circuits all tuned for 27mhz.

Hello.
That is the point, as it is, it will not work.
If you look up "Fast food fun", you will find the real scoop.
http://www.phonelosers.org/fun-with-fast-food-drive-thrus/
Kind of like the Elecro-Spur, you will find plenty of references to it, even ads.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/spurmarks/907297044/in/set-72157601020589524/
But, actual directions for construction? perhaps, but most are bogus.
You must be able to think things thru to discover what is the "real deal" and what is simply not true.
And, even if it is true, do you have the skill to pull it off?

Yeah, I added this up to 81 MHz right after I watched the video and it didn't make any sense. There is also NO way a CB can transmit that far out of band. I can't believe some people are actually falling for this though!

Thank you my friend, but number one I’m not from Saudia, I am a qatari, number 2, a Ham should never be on CB and we do have rules like every one else, we go through all of the procedures any other real Ham any where else in the world, may be we also more restrict to give that piece of paper except for those who deserve it, I do the training for the new Ham, and I have a long experience on the air, being so long on CW also and made more than 100,000 contact so far.
We can not make a connections with another country for what I write here, yes there are people going through the wrong path and we are trying our best to attract some of those people and shift them to real hobby of Ham Radio, other wise I also know , that there more Cbers in the west than being here, Cbers not only on CB bands but also on 2 meter, relax and look a little out side your door steps, you will possibly find more of those around you, the same way I find them here.
We try but we can never eliminate those users, it is just the way it been going since radio transsmitters seen life.
Thank you my friend and 73
