For those who care I am QRT from my IL operation. I will be uploading all my qso's to LoTW soon and I'd like to thank those of you who took the time to get into my log.
I ran a K3 through a 6 element beam up 75 feet most of the time, I also operated a bunch on 40, 80, and 160. Beam on 40, inverted V on 80, and inverted L with some receive antenna's for 160.
73 all!

He was just out visiting some relatives. I guess he's going home now. Nothing major.

Maybe he can find some relatives in North Dakota to visit?

I wish.
I was major though. How many times a year do you get to run K3's through 75 feet towers with stacks?
I had some regular pileups from EU, I was spotted. I guess 13 year olds are somewhat rare.

Not nearly as rare as they should be.

::I think what was meant wasn't a slam at all: It was an invitation for more 13 year-olds to get on the air and maybe be famous for an hour, a day, a week, or a year.
"Not as many 13 year old ops as there should be!" and I believe that to be true, also. I was licensed when I was 13 and have had a great time in ham radio ever since. Millions of 13 year-olds don't know what they're missing.

Ouch!
My only problem with 13 year olds at the moment is they turn into 15 year olds. It sure is nice to work away from home most of the time during these trying times. :D

Just what do you mean by this? Sounds kind of hateful to me? Is there a joke I didn't get?

Maybe I mis-read, but I took it as meaning there should be more younger hams on?

I HOPE that's what ECI meant, but it didn't sound like it.

I hope maybe he did mean that but thats not what he wrote.
Calvin said I guess 13 year olds are somewhat rare.
Tom said" Not nearly as rare as they SHOULD be"
Makes it sound like he wants them to be rarer as in less. Thats why I asked what I did. Maybe he meant something else but I sure can't figure out what. I took it as a slam on Calvin and 13 year olds and that he wanted them to be fewer and rarer. Funny comment for a moderator to make I thought. Maybe he meant something else? We'll have to wait and let him explain.

I meant 13 year olds in general, not 13 year old hams in particular. I've survived 2 13 year olds at this point and I've got one to go in a few more years.
It was meant to be humorous.

As I took it, but I guess some are looking for a slight/fight. Guess you had to be a parent to get it. :)

Not a fight, but to many it sounded like a rude, derogatory statement, without knowing the "inside joke."
Things can be more easily misunderstood in written form than when expressed in person or even merely by voice. It probably would have been better if Tom had explained it in the original comment.

Congrats Cal on your operation.
I didn't get to work you because my time has been tight here, but hopefully when you move to your new QTH we can have another qso.

I agree with ECI. Too much freedom, too fast--and with not enough of learning the meaning of responsibility.

I totally missed this boat. I thought this was a cooking conference. :)
The thing I most envy with Calvin, he is near the end of the age where learning to play musical instruments is most efficient. Most great players are near their peak at 13.
I equate CW to music here, in case I wasn't clear.
Keep up the good work, Calvin.

It wasn't. It sounded like a personal attack to an innocent post by a 13 year old operator. Moderator, moderate thy self.

I'm not looking for a fight. I just think we should be encouraging youth ops not making fun of them.

I would welcome more young operators, we have one real YL in our group and the other day I talked to an Amateur and he sounded new - turns out he's 11, and a General.
Good for 'em.

It wasn't, so no moderation is needed. No rules of the road were violated.

Way to go Cal, I was looking to work you too, when I saw you in the DX spots, but you must have QRT by then.
You're not DX to me in NC, but I knew the call and wanted to give a shout.
Best wishes to you.
I'm planning a mini-expedition for 1 day or 2 on the Blue Ridge Pkwy at 6000' and am testing my equipment now, but that won't probably be for at least another 3-4 weeks, and just on 20 meters, maybe 6 & 2 meters also if I can get some help.

I was a 13 year old ham and back then we weren't rare on the air at all. And we ALL knew AND used the code on the air. Somehow it wasn't a hinderance in 1975.
Congratulations Cal, it's great fun indeed!

No offense taken. Tom may have said something in a way that most people misunderstood him in.
