To all amateur radio operators,
I am writing this message with a heavy heart. A fellow ham, AB9JD, Harold "Brad" Hensley of Plainfield, IN may have been found in his vehicle in a retention pond. Brad went missing January 12, 2006 and all efforts to locate him has been fruitless. On Monday, March 17, 2008, Plainfield Police found and recovered his 2005 Jeep in a retention pond at the front of the subdivision where him and his wife lived. The authorities have not confirmed that the body in the vehicle is Brad, but the investigation contiues. I will include news links and you can also look for information by looking up his callsign. Please keep his wife and family in your thoughts and prayers. He was a loving husband and fellow ham in our community.
God bless and 73,
Bill Schini, N9JPS

Thanks for the info Bill. Yes the local TV outlets have been busy with this story and as of this morning, it appears nothing is determined yet. It was his auto but no definite ID.

Just south of Indy.
That's just terrible. :(
I wish the news/cops wouldn't be so quick to jump on some "potential addiction" angle when they know nothing yet. It could just as easily have been a heart attack or something else.

To all,
The latest from the local media is that the authorities have identified the body as that of Brad Hensley, AB9JD. I have included a link to a local media account of this story. They are still looking in to the cause. Keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this tragedy. If there is an announcement of charities or other causes to donate, I will post them here.

While my sympathies lay with those most deserving of them in instances such as these I must admit that this is the first thought that crossed my mind as well. After having read the linked story I wonder why it is that pond was searched at this late date especially since it was stated that there weren't any skind marks or any other indication that the vehicle headed in that direction.
Facts or speculations anyone?

Facts or speculations anyone?
Being a good friend of his for a long time, I would ask that you keep the speculations to yourself. People have been making some insane speculations. Let the police do their jobs. They get paid to speculate, then investigate, without causing further pain to the family and friends. The facts will come out in due time.

I have a question. Why does the website say "Justice" for Brad?
Usually such titles are reserved for people who others feel have been wronged, victimized or prosecuted unfairly.

Again, in due time more facts will come out. For now, family and friends request privacy. The police are good at their jobs, and are working on it. Certain things remain private matters at this point. He will be laid to rest this week, and that is everyones main priority right now, laying him to rest.
This has been a truly sad and an emotionally trying ordeal for everyone who knew him personally. Speculation, rumors, and accusations will only hurt his family and friends, and cause problems for the investgators working hard on his case. Please understand and respect our wishes for privacy. If you knew Brad or his family and friends, you would understand that is what they want at this point. And im sure if Brad had a say, he would want the same for any of us.

With all that said, you probably should never have posted it here on the Zed. You can't expect to post something like this and not expect publicity. Especially when 2 and 2 don't add up to 4. Any speculation could have been minimized if you had chosen to not publicize it!

Tipster says Brad Hensley's death is homicide
Posted: March 27, 2008 01:51 AM
Updated: March 27, 2008 10:18 AM
Steve Jefferson/Eyewitness News
Plainfield - The case of a missing Plainfield man found last week has taken another turn. A tipster said his death was not an accident and that someone killed him.
The tip came in a letter sent to the Plainfield Police Department. The letter was in a plain white envelope with no return address.
Lt. Jeff Stephens is one of the investigators on the case. He said the person who posted the letter wants to be considered an anonymous tipster. He talked about some of the other content in the letter.
"They did have the date of March 21st, 2008 that is underlined, and they did state we needed to continue the investigation. 'It was no accident, it was murder.'"
Plainfield police found Brad Henley's body in his Jeep in a retention pond not far from his house last week. They are waiting on toxicology results. The investigation shows he may have driven into the pond after finishing his overnight shift some two years ago. Police were prepared to close their investigation until the letter arrived.
"If they have valid information this was a murder," said Stephens, "we want to talk to them and get to the truth."
The handwritten letter is addressed to the police department with no return address. Police show only the envelope because the letter contains crucial information only certain people would know. Either way, detectives plan to get to the bottom of the mysterious message, says Stephens.
"It's going to be sent to the lab to have them test the letter and see if we can come up with fingerprints."
If you have any information on the case, you are asked to call the Plainfield Police Department.

Police: Letter about Plainfield missing man was hoax
Updated: April 1, 2008 03:00 PM
Plainfield - Police say the person who wrote a mysterious letter suggesting the death of a Plainfield man was not an accident did not actually have any real information about the case.
A dive team found the body of Harold "Brad" Hensley inside a Jeep at the bottom of a retention pond in Plainfield last month. Detectives ruled his death an accident but reopened the investigation after getting the letter.
Now police say the letter was written by an elderly Indianapolis woman who has written similar letters in the past. They say she was lonely and did not write the letter out of malice. She will not be charged.
Hensley was missing for two years before officers found his body. Police think he accidentally drove into the pond while leaving for work, but are still waiting on autopsy results.
