Airlink Express digital modes software available
A new Amateur Radio digital modes software package designed for the Microsoft Vista operating system is now available.
As well as Vista it is said the software will also run on Windows XP and offers PSK, MFSK and RTTY digital modes with logging and macro capabilities.
Airlink Express is built on the Microsoft .Net Framework. The logging information is stored in an Access database. This means that you can access this information if you have a copy of Microsoft Access running on your computer.
The logbook database can be exported to a file in ADIF (version 2) format so it can be imported into your favorite logging software.
Airlink Express can be downloded from

Strange, the Airlink Express started out as a Northwest Airlines Commuter flying SAAB SF-340 aircraft.

I tried downloading it and it said the Setup files are corrupted. Anyone else having that problem?

I like the simple setup. Works nice too. Didn't see a squelch function, but may have missed it. Looks good so far.

n5ark Your situation may be different. I use Linux for web surfing, if there is an application that I feel I want I download the app. onto a thumb drive. then carry the thumb drive out to the barn where the radios are. There is no phone out there and I don't want my windoz machine to get a virus. I plugged in the thumb drive and started the installer, however it wanted internet access to get the rest of the program. So no Airlink Express digital program for me, delete the :mad:files and respond to this forum.

The squelch function is present. Click on the level control and you will see a line appear indicating the squelch level. You can drag this line up and down to change the level.

I installed on a computer just for checking and it had to access the internet to download a LARGE file - just how am I to load to my radio computer that has no internet access??? I did like the simple interface and setup - squelch is on the lower right side - I think that is the squelch anyway....
I sure was hoping to use this program because of it's simple interface.
My suggestion, on your website provide a link to download complete program so it can be installed without internet access.

Internet access is only needed to download the .Net Framework from the Microsoft web site if it is not already installed on your computer. If you want to do a stand alone install, load the ,Net Framework from Microsoft's web site and install that first and then install Airlink Express.
The .Net Framework can be obtained at:
.Net Framework 2.0 from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en)

KR1ST The computer is out in the barn, no phone out there, only two tin cans and a kite string for the XYL to get a hold of me. A lot of those Microshaft programs will not down load with out being able to read the serial number of the OS installed in the computer. I am not going to lug that comp. into the house hook it up to try a piece of software, then lug it back out to the barn.
Fast response - Alex just added a link to the download page so version 2.0 of .NET Framework can be downloaded as a single file to a flash drive. This allows installing to a computer that does not have internet access.
FAST service!!

Well no I have no excuse, I will try that method and see.
What is this BS a whole truck load of manure, I have to down load a twenty two Meg file to run a program that almost fits on one floppy.
Are you microshaft users on the take from billy boy? I sure am glad that there is a GPL and open source software. This machine is on line and in use almost constantly and it has NEVER crashed, My laptop can not make a trip to Florida running Street Atlas with out locking up.

Well sirs I waited two and one half hours for .net to download took the thumb drive with that and the application out to the barn only to have the computer inform me I need more resources to load .net into the computer some BS about not having program install or some other BS. I HATE MICRO :mad:SHAFT AND WIN:mad:BLOWS
2-1/2 hrs??? You must be on a SLOW dialup connection? It is a 22 meg file size to download - if you are running VISTA I don't think you need to download the .NET file - I didn't. Installed just fine. I sure wish I was back on XP rather than VISTA, but can not find the drivers for the Toshiba P205 notebook.
I used the program some last night and it's pretty neat - easy to use... Clean interface.... Remember all the gripes about VISTA because there were few ham programs written for VISTA? Well, this one IS written just for VISTA - let's face it, VISTA is the way of the future for Windoz users - until the next upgrade anyway.
Good job of writing the program and making it available to the ham group - and the price is the BEST - FREE.... now if it would only make coffee & do the dishes{grinning}

It's not the fault of Alex that windows .Net is required, we should thank him for the Vista specific software, not a lot out there for Hams.
I have been ill for 2 1/2 days just a cold, but i've made 46 countries in 3 1/2 days on Airlink Express using just 5w on 40m, I think that says it all for the software really !!!

_____Not everyone has high speed, that said we are the last customer out the power line, Lots of dips and browns. We are the last customer out the phone line, its three miles back to the first remote switch gear. I wish that web sites would ping the lead to the last visitor to see if they have HS or Dial up. I can not go car shopping on line, I get tired of waiting. So while most of you are on the internet superhighway I am idling along the shoulder. I really have to be motivated to try a new application, especially to endure a long wait to get it into my machine. As to Micro:mad:Shaft and Vista I know of too many unadopters going back to XP. I use Nix for a reason it works I have never had a Nix crash. Find a geek and try some of the one CD or live demos of Linux you may walk away from Win:mad:Blows.
Harvs Ham shack hack, fldigi are actual station setups.

@KC8HYW:
If you need any Linux cds/dvds, let me know and I'll be happy to mail them to you. It only takes a few hours to download even the biggest ones here at school.
BTW, I'm working on building something along the lines of Digipup... reviewing *lots* of Linux-based amateur radio software, and hopefully bringing back a few projects that haven't seen updates in a while.

_________________________ Sound cards. Okay hams use sound cards for connecting to their radios, and often we are turning the computer around to get to the sound card jacks, changing radios programs etc. When we change radios we often have to unplug one radio and plug in a different one.
So I was locking at a sound card and saw these three other inputs. CD-ROM, TV-TUNER, and FM-RADIO are these three inputs the same voltages as the line-in jack that comes out the back? If so that would give me four distinct stereo ins. I would not need more outs but the extra ins sounds good.
I have yet to fillet my machine put in an audio CD and see the output level of the CD-ROM drive, but I am hoping that with some old cables, some jacks, and the soldering iron I will have more inputs.

I'm not an expert, but I would tend to think that those jacks should be equivalent. As long as you have support in your mixer software for them, they should be usable for RTTY, CW, PSK, or whatever you want.

________________KC0BUF Well tonight we had supper at the stepsons house and he is an IT. His response S&%t I spent a lot of bucks on a mixer and I could have filled up the PCI slots with sound blasters and had more inputs than that POS I bought.
____By the way ladies and gentlemen along the top edge of the sound blaster cards are four jacks for a special CD-ROM to sound card cable. buy a few cables and some RCA pin or stereo jacks and get out the drill to make it look pro. and add four more sources in.
____No more turning around the comp to plug in the radio you are useing, just adjust the gain for that one. I do SSTV off of two radios and sound card modes off of two others so the extra ins are very welcome.
