Well, what do you know... I knew my trusty TS-850Sat had (has) a great receiver. Rob's testing proves this out. Even with it's less than stellar transmitted IMD performance, I hope it lives through the upcoming cycle peak, for I will put it to use.
Given Rob's numbers, a new Ten-Tec Orion or Omni-VII series radio is in my future also. :)
Thanks for pointing us to these links.

I spoke with Rob a number of times and his data provides valuable insight as to which radio may have the better performance. From a contest perspective, even the new FT-2000 et al aren't there.
The trusty TS-850 has yet to be really surpassed.

Only the K3, Flex, R4C/Sherwood, Omni 6+, Omni 7, and Orion 2 look better at 2 kHz spacing.

Regarding the TS-850S, if only Kenwood would build another equal to or better performing rig, they'd sell like hotcakes. Incorporating the newer receiver front-end design techniques would accomplish this, as well as a quality 50-volt Vcc transmit amplifier section.
Personally, I don't believe Kenwood has the vision or will to do so today. Though, I could be wrong.

I am keeping my 850. I bought my 850SAT new in 91, and has never skiped a beat. No way will I buy a new rig at todays cost. there is no value in todays rigs vs cost. Today for 12 grand you get a light show, and an ego boost....NOT WORTH IT!
