New D-STAR Query Page

Tim WY1U has created a web page that enables you to view activity on a particular D-STAR repeater.

The page is understandably US centric and only includes a few of the D-STAR repeaters that are available in the UK. Nevertheless it provides a very useful facility.

The page can be seen at:

With all due respect, D-Starusers.org has been doing this for a while now:

http://www.d-starusers.org/repeaters.php

It contains all repeaters currently on the network, and is constantly maintained, but repeater administrators and site administrators alike. It will also give you the option to view all callsigns heard on the reporting node entry on the last heard page.

Indeed, why do what D-Starusers.org is already doing? They do it better as well, in my opinion.

Let me start by thanking N5EBW for the link to an excellent site.

But I did not know that I would create a problem with the local [STAR HEADS by discussing the usage I have seen on our local D-Star repeaters.

Don’t know were the rule is in Part 97 but I have been informed, by al local Extra Class VE, that I am not allowed to talk about D-Star if I don’t own a D-Star radio.

I was also informed, by that same VE, that he will be able to “Lock Out Undesirables” from his D-Star Repeater when he gets it up and running.

I guess that comes under the heading of BUYER BEWARE.

Again thank to N5EBW for the link, lots of fun to check into and see if the investment is worth it.

Personally did not see anyplace I haven’t worked and gotten confirmation from on Free to Air Digital modes using a piece of wire and 20 watts, but looks like fun anyway.

The ability to lock people out by radio or callsign is one of the features that some repeater operators are really liking about D-Star, supposedly.

I personally haven't messed with it though and with the cost of the equipment that I've seen, I don't see myself doing so in the near future either.

I've just been watching D-Star demo videos on youtube to get a grasp of what D-Star can do. Interesting ideas, but I don't plan on getting D-Star anytime soon. Cost is one thing and if I can't get my other ham buddies to buy D-Star equipment it won't motivate me to get into it.

Sheesh, hardly any activity on any of the Dstar repeaters. Check out the one from New York City.

Hi
The cost is one issue I have. Most hams are not on D-Star and for the local VHF UHF repeater activity I cannot justify the cost.
Plus many groups are calling D-star the cure all for Emergency Communications. I have stayed away from Winlink due to the high cost. looking at PSKmail as a alternate method over winlink.
I live in the area hit hard by Hurricane Katrina so I know first hand what can and does happen.
