Just got back from a trip and had good experience with airpot security.
Radios were not a problem at all.
Out in El Segundo, at the TRW hamfest I bought a set of combination wrenches, and a Triplett VOM, and both were in my carry-on duffel.
The VOM was no problem. The set of wrenches wasn't a problem at LAX, but going through security at Orlando, they were a problem. But a good one.
Two of them, 17 and 19 mm, were too long, and the security guy said, "two of these are too long, but the others are OK." So, he took the plastic package, found a knife to open it, took out 2 of the many wrenches, and let all the others pass. That's really nice service from airport security.

I'm confused? So you flew across the country with these as carry-on with no problem but near the end of your trip the U.S. Government decided some of your wrenches "were too long" and stole two of of them and you call this "really nice service"... Did they offer to compensate you for what they took from you?

Somehow, I don't think compensation is an option.

I called it "nice" because they took the time to take out the offending "weapons." They coulda just taken the whole thing.

I also don't see how stealing and theft can be considered nice service, nor do I find the contradiction in policy from one point to another a good thing.
Why is it ok to bring on toothpaste and nail clippers one year, and not another?
Not that I would ever bring wrenches with me to an airport in the first place, but if I was in this situation, I would have taken the wrenches and given them to someone who was leaving the airport as a gift, before I allowed this other guy to have them.

Personally I've had nothing but problems with "airpot" security. It seems every time I get to one the thing is empty. If security had been doing their job they would have kept others away so it would still be full when I got there. :D
As for airport security, I don't know. I haven't flown since new rules were put in place. I will be flying to meet a ship in May so if you never hear from me after that point something must have gone wrong.
What women want more than anything else in the world is security. I know this because every time I approach one in a bar that's what she starts screaming.
