How's this for something new to worry about?
We have all heard about the feared dangers of magnetic fields emanating from high tension power lines and electric appliances in the home. We have also heard about the alleged dangers of exposure to radio waves, and now the FCC requires us to make electro-magnetic radiation assessments of our amateur radio installations.
But now, automobile tires?
Magnetic fields emanate from radial tires due to the presence of reinforcing belts which are made of magnetized steel wire. When these tires spin they generate alternating magnetic fields of extremely low frequency (ELF), usually below 20 Hz. The fundamental frequency of these fields is determined by tire rotation rate and has a sinusoidal waveform with high harmonic content. The tire-generated fields can exceed 2.0 μT in the seat level in the passenger compartment of vehicles. If these fields are biologically active, failure to detect them could compromise exposure assessments associated with epidemiologic studies.

The potential danger from RF is the heating effect it has on the water in your body.
There has been no validated research that has shown any effect of magnetic fields on the body.

If all tires are magnetic then why is it that mine is the only one full of nails? :D

Goodyear certainly doesn't buy wire with a magnetic charge. It is simple brass coated steel in everything from single strand to heavy woven multi strand for earthmover tires.

Its obvious to me that the bones heads who wrote this artical have never really examined a tire of any kind. I've been in the tire business for some 19 years and I can tell you for a fact that the only thing a tire produces while rotating on the road is heat. This is why you dont ever inflate your tires to max psi. A 10 ply light truck tire is 80 psi max. If your not towing or hauling anything, then 45 psi is plenty. Otherwise if you inflate to max psi you risk having a blowout especially in summertime heat. The construction of a tire are steel belts in the beads of the tires and criss cross in the tread. 80% of a tire is made from recycled asphalt and oil. The rest are nylon cords and steel belts. 15% nylon and 5% belts. That is your typical passenger tire. (235/75r/15 ; 265/75r/16 ; etc etc). Trucks tires, ( 11r 24.5 ; 295/75r/22.5 ; 315/85r/22.5 etc etc), the equation a bit different but I wont get into that. Too many numbers to try and remeber. Farm tires, on the other hand are mostly nylon cords. 20.8x 38, 18.4x 42, 20.8x 46.
Rant off.............

Not that it is a problem, but long ago I read that if your head is in a high field you can see flashes in your eyes if you move them quickly. That would be an effect.
Anyone else heard of this?

why does the MRI TECH. ALWAYS GO TO A "SAFE PLACE" WHILE OPERATING THE DEVICE, JUST LIKE AN XRAY TECH. DOES ??

Because he doesn't want to erase the magnetic strip on his credit cards? :D
If I thought that strong magnetic fields would cause ailments like sterility, I would have sat on the tape degausser at the radio station and held the button in, thereby saving the government the cost of my military financed vasectomy.

I am having trouble downloading the article so cannot read the experimental method, but compared with all the fields we are exposed to in the home I think its nuts.
The only danger from rotating tyre is if you get in the way !

The lead author of that article, Samuel Milham, is the same guy that about 20 years ago published a study saying that ham radio operators were prone to leukemia.
In this ARRL article from 2000, that study is described as "Bad Science":

You go to the doctor who asks where it hurts. You point to your shoulder. He sends you for the MRI after which they hand you the bill and send you back to the doctor's office for the results. The doctor again asks where it hurts, you look at the MRI bill and point to your wallet.

It has nothing to do with radiation or ELF or any of that nonsense.

It seems to me that all the bone headed numb skulls get paid lots of money to write junk of this sort to fill up pages with crap facts in cheap magazines. Then some people believe it.

TOM K8ERV Montrose ColoBecause the magnetic field is quite powerful and will kill your watch, pull nails out of shoes, and pull other magnetic materials into the equipment possibly endangering the patient under test.
The patient is in the strongest part of the magnetic field, often for as long as ten to thirty minutes. If there were harmful effects, we would know about them by now.

Emphasis added by me.
Beginning of the page...The imaging machines are very popular because they use powerful electromagnets -- not radiation -- plus computers and radiowaves to create clear and detailed images of the brain and other organs.
End of the page...The powerful magnets used by MRIs "are on all the time so it is not a question of flipping the magnet on and off. Anytime an object comes into the magnet's field it can become dangerous."
Is it just me or something is wrong right there ?

Hey, this is no joke. It is especially dangerous when you are drunk, laying next to a highway with cars speeding by at 70mph or more. Go figure, first you had to worry about those stupid drivers texting running you down, now this.................
