I just got back from another trip to 6-land, this time I came back via Melbourne, Fla., for some tutorage there. The main point I want to express here is how pleased I've been with airport security. Out in El Segundo, I bought a set of metric combination wrenches 'cuz they looked good and the price was right, $7.00. They were in my duffle when I flew to Fla., and then today when I flew from Orlando to NY. I kinda worried about them through security, but I need not have.
At LAX, the guy on the xray machin let them through with no problem. Oh, I also had a set of quick disconnects (BTW...for you hamstick owners, you can get a set of quick disconnects that contains one piece to put on the mount, and 5 pieces to put on the antennas). The guy asked me "What are those metal things?". He was completely happy with my response that they were antenna mounts.
But...I had to get that stuff through security in Orlando today. First of all, and this is good to know, the line there was VERY LONG. But if you see that, don't worry, it moves VERY FAST. I was through it in about 15 minutes. Not a problem.
So OK, they xray'ed my bag, and the wrenches gave them a problem and they guy looks in my bag. He finds the wrenches (still in the plastic package) and tells me the the two biggest ones are too big, and the rest are OK. So what he does is he finds a knife, opens the package, takes out the to biggest ones, and hands me back the rest. I was really, really, impressed that he'd do that for me.
And, in general, the people at airport security have been good people doing an excellent job. And, radios have never been a problem. Again, I had my '817 and a Qpack tuner in my computer bag, and this time I had a Triplett VOM in my duffel, and neither of those were a problem at all.
Oh, and my computer crashed its hard disk out in CA (Grrrr....), so I didn't have web access til today. Last night I tried posting via the iWeb (Computer internet) in the hotel room and it SUCKED! It was pretty much unusable.
So... it's good to be back, it's good to have a computer again, and I'm around again.
I'll be posting over on the Politics forum my take on the view of this campaign from outside the web. Egad....!
