www.HamBid.com will officially launch this coming Saturday.
Already there are almost 500 registered users and around 1000 unique visits to the site each day. Current growth is between 1 and 5% each day.
The biggest number of hits are currently from the US. This is followed by the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and so on.
In order make this totally free-to-use-buy-and-sell site easier to use, new language options are being added shortly. First will be Italian and Spanish which will be followed by Russian and German.
Currently, there is a British flag at the top right hand side of the site. The new languages will be selected by clicking the flags to each corresponding country which will sit along side the British one.
Any constructive comments appreciated, those from always-negative-amateurs will be smiled at and ignored.
Remember, it does not matter if you are a private individual or a business. To buy, sell, post a wanted ad or submit an offer, there are no charges what so ever. None, period.

The more posts I see about it, the more I stop thinking that it might be a good idea and the more I start thinking "SPAM."
If you annoy people enough, they will do the internet version of a boycott and not use your site.
One announcement would more than suffice for all of your sites. Posting news every time you change one little thing is getting annoying.
If I posted every time I changed my personal website I'd be posting once a week and people would be mad by now.
Chill out a bit.

One closer to 500.
Lets see, it's "HAM Bid", but I see a category for CB radios.
Sorry OM, you just lost a supporter.

I think an alternate site just for "Communications" gear is a great idea. The more the better, diversify. And I believe they do offer paypal as an option for payment.

Right.
And people creating multiple accounts or friend tag teaming jacking up the bids to their liking, possibility of being a mecca for stolen or illegal merchandise and liar sellers that say "It worked before I put it in storage".
Sorry. No thanks spammer. I will never online auction again.
I will either buy from classified or new.

One thing that immediately set of a red flag with me are the time periods on some of these auction items. What the hell is the point of having an auction run for 60 days? That's insane. No one is going to want to stick around for that long especially for a POS FT-100. More sillyness.

I will wait a while before bidding or selling on that site and that is if I ever do. Ebay at least has the user feedback and with it just opening up everyone is a 0 so no telling if you are an honest seller or a rip off artist. I think staying away for a while is what I am gonna do.

What really irks me, just like Ebay, there are 18 items listed in the "transceivers" column, yet there are already 8 manuals and 1 CB, and this is only day two. Can't we keep manuals out of the transceiver sections?
Online auctions stink. Good luck.

It looks like just one more site I don't need to bother with.. I either want it NEW or have my hands , eyes and ears on the item before I will even consider making an offer on something, too easy to get cheated otherwise.. I know there are honest sellers out there, but my money comes too hard to take a chance on loosing it on some well intended junk...
Just my $.02

I have read that others who were kicked off Ebay were going to be listing and selling there .
No Thanks !

First off, I really do like to see great ideas succeed.
As I began to write to the operator of the site, I proposed a couple of questions about how his auction site was going to differ from the fraud ladden ebay, and gave ideas on how easy it would be to just log and show IP addresses during the bidding process and the IPs of the businesses advertising, so that you could see that the individual/company selling the product wasn't shilling; even if dynamic ip's are involved, it's only the last few numbers that change (unless you're portal hopping, but I'm trying to keep this simple). That way, we as bidder/buyer could make our own determination on if this product REALLY WAS what the market currently bears or just another online business outbidding itself. Ebay/Paypal (a monopoly) have no problem figuring out who YOU are specifically/ip and password, when it's about getting THEIR money, but protect the seller (their bread and butter) when it comes to disputes. The "Sorry, you deal with it" program.
The "log and show" IP scenario is extremely simple and is one reason you don't see it on ebay as the house of cards would tumble on themselves.
After the owner of the new auction site said he was "open for any new suggestions or ideas" to make his the best, the simplest ones I brought forward met with responses of how he didn't really see it could work and he was going to stick with time and tried 'what the market will bear' attitude. And my final summation is: Isn't that what we have here already?:)

I'll form my own opinion thank you. Give it a chance. The telephone didn't work so hot the first time I hear.

Oh puhleezeee!!!
Are you that insecure? Are you afraid of CBers? Or just that you might be tempted?
Talk about an attitude that drives away our biggest possible feeder for newbies!
Mike
Geez, KD8CTZ and N1DVJ... ouch you two... ganging up on me!
I never said I was for or against CB, a hobby that, like ham radio, has good points and not so good points. (like all hobbies, I am sure!)
Maybe I wasn't clear.
If an on line auction, flea market, etc is a "ham radio" event, there should be only ham radio. If the event is a "CB event", I would not want to see computers, videos, or ham radio. In the same vein, if I entered a computer auction site, I would not want to see radios there. Its just that simple. Call it "truth in advertising" or whatever, I like to keep it pure.
Afraid or threatened by CB? Not in the least. Why should I be? CB is a hobby unto itself, (similar in a lot of respects to ham radio), and I don't worry, nor do I "fear" it taking over anything. In fact I have never seen any evidence of CB wanting to "take over" anything.
Elitist and enlightened? sorry thats not KM1R. To me, everyone is equal and everyone's hobbies are respected. (And those who know me will agree) My two main hobbies, (ham radio and model railroading) are no better or worse than any other hobbies. Enlightened? Not I ! C'mon, That was sarcasm in it's finest form! .
Anyway, that's it, I responded...no need to drag this on, Mike & Terrence, when I hear you guys on the air, I will call you, but it's your choice to answer or not. Or if I bump into you, you can treat for coffee. (Now that's DEFINITELY NOT elitism!) hi
Seeya on the bands... keep smiling and of course, 73

Hey, if I catch you on the air, I'd be glad to chat. Although I haven't been on that much lately. The K2 hasn't even been turned on in probably 4 weeks. I know, bummer situation.
I'm actually not that far from you. I'm about 15 miles from the NE corner of CT.
And sorry if I came on that strong, but I don't feel the same way. CB equipment is prime fodder for parts for HAM equipment. My first 2M transverter was built around a TRC-457 SBB CB set that I pulled the dial out and redid the PLL with new switches and crystals to make it 28-29mhz. Only it didn't work. Turned out I had birdies all up and down the band. It actually worked, but wasn't usable. I ended up putting it back to CB (well, an 'overlap' of CB but 99 channels wide) and then used different crystals in the transverter. Better, but still not what I hoped. Ended up buying an HTX-100 for the sole purpose of using it as my 2M core.
