View Full Version : US not headed for recession, says Prez
President Bush said Thursday that the country is not headed into a recession...Bush's view of the economy was decidedly rosier than that of many economists, who say the country is nearing recession territory or may already be there.
This guy is so far out of touch from reality. Is it 2009 yet?

There are enough conflicting signs to point in either direction, but I would not be quite so sanguine of success as Mr Bush. One is forced to imagine that he is trying to "jawbone" the economy. I wish him all the luck in the world, and we would all profit from his success.
But my wallet will stay in my pocket, just the same.

Oh NO I am depressed about the recession.
We may yet have a recession if the LIB media and the DEMS keep wishing it on us with phony stories and claims.

They will worry about it when its here. If its not here already.
But since the government is always late to the party, I'd say they are just "staying the course" like they usually do.
Heck, it took them a few days to react to Katrina, I wouldn't expect them to react to a recession until we're nice and mired in it already.
I think they know more than they are telling us, they wouldn't be sending out tax rebate checks if they were confident enough that we were not heading that way.
We'll see if that saves the world like they claim it will :)

Gee, the price of gas here has jump 10 cents in one day from $3.11 to $3.21. The same gas that was in the tanks 24 hours ago go figure.

You ain't seen nothing yet :)
I think this year is the year where we're going to see $4. Its going to cost about $50 to fill my little 4cyl S-10 pickup.
SUV owners will have to take out a second mortgage to fill up.
They think demand has slacked off now, wait till that happens. People will be driving to work and thats it. Places like theme parks that are hurting now will be screaming bloody murder.
I know if it gets that high I won't be doing anything but driving to work. And it won't be by my choice, it will simply be because the money doesn't exist :) We'll see how that spurs the economy into growth.
Where's Jimma Carter when you need him??

We all need a little of what he's smoking. Right, its the liberal press and Dems that have made up all the stories about the sub prime mortgage problem and the rate of inflation for the last year. And to boot, they've made up all the quotes from Bernanke regarding the reasons for all the interest rate cuts and other stuff from his testimony in front of Congress. You have to admit they did an excellant job of dubbing in the words they needed him to say. It's terrible how they have fooled everybody but GWB and XR.:D

Yeah, but our president is a goober. He also promised to bring bin Laden to justice. He also said there were WMD's in Iraq. He lies so often, it's embarrassing.
He and Dr. Bunkcheck will probably just lower interest rates again, so that the dollar drops in value, everything costs more, and the Chinese can poison more of our children with lead paint.
Thank God there are only a little over 326 days left in the dick 'n boosh crime syndicate's reign of terror.
It's going to take decades to clean the neocon poo out of the white house, and get this country back on track. All we can do now is pray that he does minimal additional damage to this country before he gets the boot.

If we are headed towards a recession why doesn't he quit spending on Iraq and bring the troops home? That will stimulate the economy because the troops will have a pile of money to spend.
Then taxes can be lowered because we won't be spending a billion a day in Iraq.
Then after that they can reduce the overall size of government so that taxes can be lowered or eliminated.
Instant economic recovery!

Didn't Bush senior say the same thing during the late 80's recession and wasn't it followed by "no new taxes"? Dad lost the election when taxes were raised and the recession was a reality and thus began the Clinton era.

We've had four recessions since January of 1980.
Jan 80 to July 80
July 81 to Nov 82
July 90 to March 91
Mar 01 to Nov 01
We're not in another one, yet.
