Seems that it was only yesterday that the Political subjects were spun off into a different area here. In that time, many have posted Politics here in Ragchew. Many of those threads were never moved either. Since the some of the Neocon posters here are posting Politics in Ragchew, it is a legitimate question as to whether or not the Politics area is dead. Obviously, if posters were to abide by the rules it would work. But it seems that a small percentage refuses to no matter what. One would hope that enforcement would be the same for all too, but I sympathize with the Mods who already have their hands full long before this became a problem.

So is the idea of a separate area still go or no go?

Thank God we have a great inquisitor who can decide what is politics and what is not.

Buckley was a lifelong conservative and known for nothing else. Thank God we have Neocons who believe rules are for everyone else.

Well, the answer is quite obvious. Some people crave attention and will do anything to get it.

I see the folks that really matter, the moderators, who do a great job, know where a post belongs. Fear not, the truth will prevail, regardless of the forum.

There is absolutely no evidence, that any poster deliberately choose the wrong forum, despite what the paranoid few have decided.

I never know what particular forum any thread is from, I just hit the "new posts" button and start reading. Then when I see posts such as "why is this being posted here" I figure it is from someone that just only reads threads from one particular forum area.

More than once, I have seen people start threads about questions that were already being discussed in a thread in "another forum folder" that they said they were not aware of, because "I don't usually read anything in the ragchew section"

I don't get the whole emotional upset about finding a particular discussion in the wrong section. If it was up to me, there would not be any sections, everything would be in one group, just to stop everyone getting upset by something that would no longer be an issue.

Some don't like to read any political topics, so they want them all grouped in a seperate section. Then what when people don't want to read any Obama or McCain topics and want them in their own section too?

When I hit the "New Posts" button, I just see threads, no sections or groupings. If there is a particular thread selling an item, or about some other topic I don't care about, I just don't click on it and keep scrolling down till I find one of interest.

The problem comes if I want to start a thread and have to worry that instead of discussing the topic, the discussion is going to be on if it was started in the appropriate group or not.

What if someone has a thread such as...

Does anyone know if there are any good weekly nets on any bands that are discussing the election debates that my kids could join in on?

Would this be posted in the Questions and Answers? Talk and opinions Amatuer Radio? Political Junkie? Youth Forum? Questions and Answers? Rag Chew?

And many times we see people having to post a thread in more than one, because they want people from more than one group to see it, so more likely to get an answer to the question.

The answer is, no matter which one you would post under, you would be sure to get tons of posts discussing which would have been the better group to post under, rather than answer the question asked.

If you had two kids fighting and arguing about which bowl of potato chips to eat from, a parent would come in and take one of the bowls away so they wouldn't have anything further to argue about.

Do we need a parent to step in here and take all the forum subgroups away?

This is a special case, Paul. A political forum was created specifically to relieve those in the more laid back "rag chew" forum of the endless bickering associated with political discussions.

One individual in particular insists on creating problems by continuing to post political threads in the rag chew forum. He has been asked by 15-20 different hams to stop this, but to no avail.

I think the situation is about to resolve itself shortly, I believe. Specific requests were made of the owner concerning the separation of politics from casual discussions, and he obliged. All but one specific person has done a pretty good job of honoring the wishes of others.

To me personally, I find it more annoying to read all the posts about topics and discussions not being in the right subgroup, than someone posting in the wrong group, which I don't find a problem at all, and never even know is the case, until everyone points it out.

But that is just me.

Nothing that rating all those threads as one star won't cure :)
