Would anyone have a set or draw a set of schematics for a amp relay to act as a buffer between my TS-850 and my Clipperton-L Amp. I would like to use an external power source. Thanks VE9ZD gjohn@nb.sympatico.ca

Don't know the specs for the relay in t he 850. But hr, with a TT Corsair and a Clipperton-L I just connected the "goesoutta" of the TT relay to the input of a Rat Shack relay w/ 10 A contacts. The basic idea is that the relay in your rig should key the helper relay, and the helper relay should key the amp. Be sure to put a reversed biased diode (1N4004 or better) across the coil in the new relay to keep the transients on the reservation, so to speak. A google of "helper relay" should turn up something. You might also look at AG6K's page fer more ideas.

[EDIT] The problem is that the newer rigs want to switch less current than the older amps required, so the contacts aren't rated fer the higher current, so you make the old relay key the new relay, and switch the higher current. I've nopt measured the switch current on the clipperton, but I don't think it's too bad, and it switches at 12 V, IIRC.

All is now clear as mud, right? It's easier to do than to describe.

The Clipperton L does not have tuned input, at least not from the factory anyway. You may need to address that issue as well if you do not have the internal tuner for the radio.
