Wholesale food, energy and medicine costs have soared, pushing inflation up at the fastest pace in a quarter century.

The Labor Department said Tuesday that wholesale inflation jumped by 1 percent in January, more than double the increase that analysts had been expecting. If that rate sustains for an entire year, we'll be back to double digits once again. Betcha most salaries, benefits and pensions won't rise at anywhere near that rate.

What can the government do about?

1- lower or eliminate all taxes
2- quit printing money
3- lower government spending to the minimal levels necessary to keep order
4- eliminate all unconstitutional regulations which impose overhead on business and keep prices artificially high

Wow, it's hard to follow an act like Matts. I mean, what do you do when the previous poster has been picked up by the men in white jackets holding big nets?

Funny, the last time I remember runaway inflation like this, another Republican was in power. And who can forget Dick? This is what happens when you play with the market having no understanding of the ramifications of your actions.

Just more evidence of the trail of destruction the neocons are leaving in their wake. It won't be apparent just how extreme the damage is for another few years or so.

It's the single, biggest group of total idiots who ever held control of this country, and I pray the voters are sensible enough to rid washington of this plague.

that's what happens when you hoodwink the american citizens by releasing a few years of inflation reports that conveniently exclude the two fastest inflating costs of living, energy and food. when the blinders come off, it's BRIGHT.

Duh. Well, I guess since you live in a state of reality different from the rest of the planet, you can ignore that the repubicants held power during nearly all of the dick 'n boosh criminal regime.

Thank them for the inflation, Danno. They were apparently too stupid to develop a responsible energy policy in that time. I doubt if the democraps will fare any better, but that does not deter from the reality that the repubics failed miserably.

If you are capable of seeing the truth. I'm quite sure you can't, so I probably wasted another 2 minutes of my life replying.

That is pretty inconvenient, but that is what is offered. I would suggest Obama is looking like the lesser of all the evils, but it's going to be damn hard for me to "pull the lever" for him. I can't get a handle on what he's going to do to get government spending under control, especially considering that he will probably have to deal with a hostile congress 40% full of hateful, vindictive, uber right-wing neoconservatives who will do anything in their power to thwart any real progress.

This one is going to be worse than having to choose between boosh and Kerry.

So you're saying that after eight years of begging and pleading to get the government back during the Clinton years, we hand it to you on a silver platter and give you a two-term WAR president and you STILL blame us for influencing your energy policy?

Some 'mandate'.

also, republicans lack the accountability chromosome and welcome to ignore

It's a long way to the election, and I expect things will change before then.

But, if we do fall into a serious recession, I would not worry about there being 40% neocons in Congress. Obama's bigger problem will be a Democratic Congress that's more liberal than he is - although the last election didn't really go that way. A lot of the new Democrats are conservatives or moderates.

Why bother then? You throw your vote away. I agree that voting for any of the three current front runners is only marginally better.

What happened to you, BTW? Now you've stooped to the level of the bigoted, racist, neocons here. What's up with that?

If you want to act like a pig, like the rest of the bigots around here, just add me to your ignore list.

I hate racists and bigots. And I beg to differ with you concerning JFK. Perhaps you should seek out and read some accurate historical data before you make an ass of yourself like that.

Why bother then? You throw your vote away. I agree that voting for any of the three current front runners is only marginally better. You still have a choice. You can vote 3rd party or independent. IF EVERYONE did this then we would have more choices in the future.

The problem is the groupthink mentality of only voting for who the media tells you has a chance of winning.

He is a black JFK and that is not good!
Why not state that he is a Muslim JFK instead? What is the difference?

It may have been subtle enough to not have been noticed by yourself, but that, indeed, is racist. Why the need to reference his race, anyway? In my world, he is an American, just as you are, as I am, and hell, even boosh is.

Without the racist overtone, your statement could have read, "He is another JFK and that is not good!".

Is senator Byrd a "white Jesse Jackson"?

KG4JYD

Why not state that he is a Muslim JFK instead? What is the difference?Being a Muslim is a choice. Being black (or white) is not. And as far as I know, Barack Hussein Obama is not a Muslim.

It doesn't make any difference what color he is really, but that was the quickest distinction I could think of when comparing him to JFK.

It may have been subtle enough to not have been noticed by yourself, but that, indeed, is racist. No, it's not racist. He is black. I am white. Actually come to think of it he is mulatto; half black half white. He is neither black nor white. "Mulatto" is the most accurate term.

Why the need to reference his race, anyway? Does it matter? No. Is it important? Yes. Why? Because he is the first black (mulatto) person who has a serious chance of becoming President. It's historical. And he is young, just like JFK was.

In my world, he is an American, just as you are, as I am, I agree.

Without the racist overtone, your statement could have read, "He is another JFK and that is not good!".True, but he is different from JFK in that he is black (mulatto) and could potentially be the first black (mulatto) President of the US.

I always amazed at the Republicans who blamed Jimmy Carter for the double digit inflation of the the late 70's. They forgot that Jerry Ford had people wearing "WIN" buttons. WIN stood for 'Whip Inflation Now'. For the current situation they want to blame everyone but the Bush Administration. And the right blames energy costs on the failure to drill in ANWR. Just about everybody I've heard speak says that the amount of oil there is a drop in the bucket compared to what we use and what China and India are now using. The 'there is no global warming-there is no oil shortage crowd' would rather drive their SUV's and Hummers than face up to the harsh realities of the day. It is time to admit we are in deep do-do and start acting accordingly if we are salvage any part of the life style we have enjoyed. Unfortunately only $4/gal gas will get their attention.
