I am thinking of getting a 2 meter mobile. Can anyone tell me experiences with either the FT1802 and the FT2800. It will be primarily used in a Semi and has to take a lot of abuse. Thanks

I've had an 1802 almost a year in my car, no problems at all, but I don't get on the radio every day. Seems very solid to me and it doesn't seem to get hot at full power (50w), so the fan I bought for it is unneccessary. I built a little wooden pedestal for it and it's strapped to the front, under the glove compartment.

2800 is a brick. I have 2 of them, one I haul around and use portable (not too often, but that bag has been tossed in the truck more than a few times) and one I use for packet.

Both are over 2 years old and still performing like they should without any problems. The 2800 has a BIG heatsink too-I don't think I've ever noted it getting warm. But that makes it heavy too-make sure you mount it right so it doesn't become a missile in a sudden stop.

Depending on your needs you might want to look at a dual bander too as giving you more flexibility. The FT-8800 is solid also, though kinda fun to program. I have 3 of those, 1 at home, 2 in each of my mobiles, they are about 3 years old and still going strong also. One is in a S-10 pickup that sees 40 miles of commute on lovely California highways every day.

No vibration issues at all.

Good luck!
