On to another question. Anyone have a Yaesu 950? Curious about your first had opinion.

Don't know why he would be, most of his stuff is just a little off color harmless fun poking. The only folks who seem to take exception to his comments are the ex CB'r wanna-be-accepted-as-legit-ham doofii.

Like other forms of identity theft it is difficult, if not impossible in some venues, to get it straightened out. On legitimate forums such as QRZ, eHam, etc., it's a lot easier. Impostering on usenet, on the other hand, is rampant and pretty much impossible to prevent. But who cares about usenet, anyway (especially rrap, etc)? You might try registering on the other boards but just not posting. That way, it will be easier to get those boards' administrators to delete obvious forgeries.

Charlie, if someone other than you is posting offensive comments on an Amateur oriented site, using your call sign, Riley might want to know about it.
Although specifically not on air, if the fellow is licensed, it might be sufficiently abusive of a call sign that it affects the hijacker's radio qualification under larger portions of CFR 47, other than Part 97. It might be seen as a character deficiency issue, and the FCC still invokes that from time to time.

It sucks that someone took your identity. Thats just childish! I have heard from two very ethical SYSOPs about this attempt to log in using my call. The dufuses trying it didn't know that IP addresses are recorded and can be crossed with legitimate login IP address. In this case one of the SYSOPs reported exact matches. So I have been given both of the goober's call.
I choose to let it go. I'm not a vindictive person by nature and hopefully the person will appreciate the courtesy.

That only works if the offender is using their own ISP and connection. With the number of unsecure wireless routers, and free wifi hotspots it is very easy to login anonymously and cause havoc while hijacking someone else's internet connection. There would be absolutely no way to trace the origin of the offender.

Charlie, about the ft950. I just read the qst review a few days ago.
Dynamic range slightly better than icom 746pro. Basically best in $1500 class. New Elecraft K3 will undoubtly blow it away at a higher cost though.
Great transmit audio.
Receive audio at -6db down is very narrow on top. SSB quits about 1775 hz and even am isn't much better. I assume this is with a 2.4khz bandwidth [probably default].
A competent rig that looks impressive but be aware that many commonly used functions are buried in menus. In this regard it is very similar to kenwood ts480. I owned two of the 480 and for my general ragchew style they were just fine even with the menu/button pushing/knob turning to set things.
If you don't often change noise reduction, power, and several other functions commonly adjustable from front panel, I imagine you will be happy with it.
It has three roofing filters and can in my opinion be considered a stripped ft2000.
I read or heard through the grapevine that the abysmal receive frequency response can be traced to an easily bypassed or removed front end low pass filter.
If I remember right, qst didn't say much about the narrow receive audio though.
You being a cw guy this might not matter.

I suspect they COULD be attempting to log in from a public facility such as a library, in which case it wouldn't be of any use to ID the ISP and IP address. Most libraries don't keep a permanent log of who\what\where\when the public uses their facilities.
This guy was not that bright. He tried to register using the same address as his normal login regularly used.

I could do that... but it would not be wise. We'll put it this way, me and the person who did this are not on good terms, we don't get along. He was coming after me on that other site when he registered with Charlie's callsign.
We've taken care of the problem, there really isn't that much more to discuss.
I always knew that Charlie would never do anything like that to me. :D
You're right Cal. I do my fussing on the forum face to face. And no I won't tell names. I was hoping the last guy involved would simply apologize in email like a man.

So you have someone harassing you? The situation is simple. When you get phone calls from people you don't want calling, change your number. So why not just change your call sign, it's pretty easy to do.
