Isn't it pathetic...
The nation that produced giants such as Washington and Adams... now lifts one lazy cheek and flattulences forth Obama, McCain and Hillary for our voting pleasure.
Isn't it pathetic...
The nation that arose on the morning of December 8, 1941... after a sleepless night... rolled up it's sleeves, sent it's sons off to war and defeated the might and majesty of the Axis forces... Now stares at it's shoes as it shuffles along through the airport security checkpoints and steals a sidelong glance as a "citizen" is pulled out of line for looking suspicious to fat bellied, machine gun toting drones.
Isn't it pathetic...
The nation that in the sunny afternoons of our youth, worshipped baseball as the national pastime, now watches nightly reports of our billion dollar aircraft dropping million dollar bombs on "terrororists" who, like our own Patriots of 1776, refuse to stand, hat in hand, as occupying troops marched down the avenue.
Isn't it pathetic...
The nation whose citizens swamped the recruiting centers in 1917 and 1941 now depends on foreigners and felons to fill the ranks of the military.
Isn't it pathetic...
The nation that produced 20 B-24's each and every day at Willow Run, now can't even produce Radio Flyer wagons for the kids... importing them instead, from red china.
Isn't it pathetic...
How a handful of radicals on September 11, 2001... did what even the nuclear power of the Soviet Union could not do... Turned our guts to jelly and our spines to mush.
Isn't it pathetic...
How we've forgotten Ben Franklin's admonition that "Those who exchange essential liberty for a bit of temporary safety... Deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Isn't it pathetic that some continue to try and draw a moral equivalence of Iraq to WWII and WWI, nothing is further from the truth.
Germany in WWII had already attacked allied nations and the USA was slow to join. With Iraq someone used bad intelligence and/or lies to talk us into going to war with them. There are some very big differences there and no equivalence.
Some grandchild may very well piss on someones grave and it is not impossible that it will be a NeoCon/NeoCon Dupes grave for allowing this to go on and allowing the NeoCons to besmirch the memories of all the good men who lost their lives in wars not based in inaccuracy and fantasy.

Forget the Iraq references, how about:
The nation that produced giants such as Washington and Adams... now lifts one lazy cheek and flattulences forth Obama, McCain and Hillary for our voting pleasure.
The nation that produced 20 B-24's each and every day at Willow Run, now can't even produce Radio Flyer wagons for the kids... importing them instead, from red china.

Yes, kinda pathetic.

I didn't read RFL's statement that way - if he was making an argument in favor of some kind of military intervention, it was a really weak one - particularly the statement where he expresses admiration for the patriotism of the "terrorists".
I do believe that if a WWII-sized conflict erupted tomorrow, we'd be in a lot worse shape than we were the last time - because as he points out, we've sold our entire manufacturing capability, and know-how, to the Far East. Those same neocons preaching military superiority are at the same time outsourcing the means of production to the next super-power: China. This started with Ronnie Raygun, who suspended the rules on sourcing of military material, and got a huge reward from the Japanese when he left office. It was greatly expanded by Bill Clinton, who paved the way for the Chinese, in exchange for campaign contributions his wife is still using.
He also expresses the idea that 9/11 was brought about by a handful of radicals, not some vast worldwide conspiracy that forms a real threat to America. This administration has done a lot to help Al Qaeda grow, so they are becoming a real threat. It keeps the defense contractors well fed.
Isn't it pathetic that some continue to try and draw a moral equivalence of Iraq to WWII and WWI, nothing is further from the truth.
Have you forgotten 8 years of attacks on Americans who served at the airbase in Turkey? They were attacked almost daily. What else about you is short?

Around these parts you could be labelled a "traitor" for saying that and I know there are people in D.C. who would gladly pack you off to Gitmo for saying it.
America has always had a problem with looking at things from someone else's point of view.
That said, from their viewpoint they are the patriots, Iraqi patriots, who are trying to encourage an unwanted occupying force to leave. No matter what some would say, the attack on Iraq was unprovoked and senseless. No one knows that more than the Iraqi people.

"The nation whose citizens swamped the recruiting centers in 1917 and 1941 now depends on foreigners and felons to fill the ranks of the military"
Sorry to burst your bubble on this one, first there has always been foreigners in the military. While in I worked with those from Canada, Russia, Egypt, Cuba, Mexico, South Vietnam, Korea, and there where probably more.
Also felons are not allowed in the ARMY period.

Thanks for saying what I was about to.

Serving, if qualified, in the U.S. military is a wonderful pathway to citizenship. They are certainly welcome for the right reasons.

Tell that to those who held their purple fingers high not so many months ago. Tell that to those living in Anbar and the many other provinces -- those taken back from radical fascists. Tell that to most of the oppressed Kurds, Shiites, and Christians -- the resulting victims of the murdered and persecuted under Saddam Hussein.
An excerpt from a wonderful article called Purple Fingers, by Michael Yon
"The millions who voted sent a clear message: serpentine lines of ebullient Iraqis risked their lives—many died—to have a say in their futures. People voted by dipping their right index fingers into purple ink and casting their lot. The image of Iraqi voters proudly holding their stained fingers aloft became a symbol for the success of the election. In Baquba, many voters asked me to photograph them as they left the polling places, all smiles and purple fingers."

When you are taught for your entire life that your leaders are always 100% right, are selfeless and have only the purest and best intentions and are uncorruptable and unlike the US the rest of world is filled with a mixture of both evil and helpless people and you take this message to heart and mind for your entire life then yes, it becomes almost impossible to see the world from any other point of view.

Reconfigured goals, we went because they were supposed to be a threat and had WMD, there were none. So they start a seaque to using the term Liberation instead.
Unfortunately there is no moral equivalence to WWII and this was never about Liberation till they suddenly, Oops, figured out there were no WMD there.
Foolish to follow the old rhetoric of "My country right or wrong" especially when they were wrong.
Glad Obama took the stance of not wearing a flag pin because of the Fraudulent Iraq war, good for him. At least we still have rights, so far, and are not, thus far, living in a theocracy.
If you vote for McCain in the Fall you are enabling the Dominionist/Tenth Crusaders. If you vote for Hill-Bama you could be voting for socialism but what is worse a nation in cinders when the world gets tired of us or socialism.

"Cremation contributes to global warming... er climate change...
Why do you hate the earth?"
Spread it around the tree for fertilzer, so the trees can make O2..So you counter-act the cremation.
