This thread is only for people who have done at least one GTA through completion of the plot lines. Anyone else won't have a clue what I'm talking about.
I'm into the endgame sequence of Vice City Stories, doing the mission called "In the Air Tonight."
What can I say? For a completely awesome creative, engaging, emotionally involving creative experience, GTA is far and away beyond any other entertainment I've seen yet. I'm completely emotionally involved with Victor Vance and his brother, Lance, not to mention Reni and...yes, Phil Collins.
BTW...the voice of Victor Vance is Dorian Missick, look him up...he's done a lot of good things.
If you're a GTA fan, you know that that game beats watching any movie, or TV show, or even any book to read. The involvement you have with the characters is so perfectly modulated by the creators of the game that the release when good things happen...well...is like no other entertainment ever devised. If you got through San Andreas and lived with CJ as he did what he had to do for his hood, and deal with his homies Big Smoke and Ryder, not to mention Toreno...you know what I'm talking about when I say it's ultimate entertainment.
So now I'm close to the end of the plot, but not there yet, (And, BTW, the mission "Hige Wire" is a freakin BEAR...but after that the creators give some really, really awesome, and do-able missions that are completely enjoyable. The trouble is, I don't want it to end...but I gotta do it, so I'm done with it when GTA4 comes out.
Any commentary about "This video game is awful because...bla...bla...bla" will be ignored by this author. This thread is about the fact that this is where the real creative artists are pouring there energy today. Everything else is devoid of any art...movies..tv shows...music...has no soul at all. The REAL soul is in video games. And that's as it should be, because it's gamers who are really tuned into how vapid today's culture really is, and aren't afraid to express it.
Go CJ! Go Victor!
Can't wait for GTA4!

The REAL soul is in video games.
I had a girl friend once who was addicted to poker. One day I just left the casino; I didn't want to watch her anymore. That's all she ever talked about. Didn't see her again for five years. She looked twenty years older and had become a chain smoker. Her eyes would flit around and were unable to focus on anything. She said she had developed a new strategy and was going to kick some REAL ass that day. I wished her luck, and said that I was going to go home and work on my tomato plants.

Why did I even dare to think that I could avoid mindless responses. Will I ever learn that there are certain areas where very few can tread without getting their feathers burnt off? ;)

I'm not big on the GTA franchise, but I can understand the immersion.
I've spent hours playing the Battlefield series. the realism and physics engine in that game are awesome.
In fact the original (Battlefield 1942 was often used to create some intriguing "stunt" videos.
For mental immersion though I was quite addicted to The Elder Scrolls, Oblivion on Xbox360.
Yes there can be balance, a fella can enjoy getting into a video game and still be a functioning member of society, lol..

I have always enjoyed playing the GTA games too. Just reading this made me want to go play them :)
Also enjoyed all of the GTA series. Vice City, and San Andreas were two of my favorites. Still didn't finish the last "bicycle" race in SA. Came in second several times.
The Battlefield series were awesome games as well. 1942, Vietnam, Desert Combat, and Battlefield 2 are all great. Made it up to Lt. General in BF2.
For GTA, I was glad when they got away from "overhead" view. Even though I enjoyed them all, when thay made that change, it really started to get better.

Hello.
The plot lines of GTA, Grand Theft Auto, is to steal cars, go after the chief, that type of thing.
I was really hung up on the sims.
What broke the habit for me was getting a PSP.
The PSP takes forever to load the next scene, and due to limited memory, loads are very common.
But, for a really good game, GTA ranks very high, excellent graphics, a really good flow from scene to scene, and, above all, lot of fun.
But, yes, this is something not one must do to understand and get a feel for.
Now, I try to play the sims, for real.
The only trouble is that females may carry disease, or a kid, or even make a baby, all the bad things, for real.
Video games are the outlet, a way to get away for a while.

I'm still pretty hung on BFII, though I tried 2142, it seemed more like a mod then an actual game.
So I got a PSP for those times when my team is out at VB tournaments, and since it was the cheapest I got GTA vice city stories or something. Kinda cool, but I dont like where you can't save the game anytime, but have to finish a mission and go somewhere.

She should have sat in on my probability class. There we could consider her new "strategy".

Gaming never interested me. There is too much beauty and fascination within reality to focus upon without immersing myself in the virtual reality of the gamers world. There is indeed a great deal of creativity and magnificent art outside of the gaming community. And its not hard to find if one looks just a bit beyond the mainstream. And lets not forget nature... the greatest artist and creator of them all, who has left us so many magnificent pieces of work to admire, to marvel at, and so many fascinating mysteries to ponder, unravel, research, and explore.
This is not meant as a knok against thge gamer world. There is certainly a lot of creativity to the modern day game, they are indeed amazing pieces of work. But to immersem myself in the gaming world ? Count me out, there are too many wonderful things in this world, many which I have yet to meet.
