Crikey. On this channel sounds like someone could be thrown off by saying "screw Chinese made HT's--they can go to hell." That statement seems to violate all three no-no topics.

IRC? What a dinosaur! Last I heard it was filled with hackers, texters, and lots of other undesirable matter. 15 years ago the XYL called it the land of the small minds--and thinking back on it she was right. Made us here look like a university debate team. Sorry, if I am looking for real time chat, I believe that I will fire up the rig and get on frequency!

PS--your website does not work...

What's wrong with #hamradio on the same network, which has been established for years? As of this morning there were 70 users in that channel, and 5 (including myself) in #amateur_radio. Why not join in on all the great discussions in the already-established channel? Or was there some kind of typical IRC-fallout, and now you four have your own channel to be ops in?

Edit to add: EFNet's offical website is http://www.efnet.org (http://www.efnet.org/).

The quality of the discussions in #hamradio have gone way off topic. Lately they have been mostly about deviant sexual perversions and immature jokes about feces and such. Many people have left due to the unpoliced degragation of quality. It reflects poorly on the amateur radio community and some of us wanted to have a channel which they can sit in without fear of exposing their kids walking by the monitor to filth. It's not about a war. It's simply about a place with the ethics that should reflect the Amateur's Code...

The Amateur's Code
The Radio Amateur is:
CONSIDERATE... never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.
LOYAL... offers loyalty, encouragement, and support to other amateurs, local clubs, and the American Radio Relay League, through which Amateur Radio in the United States is represented nationally and internationally.
PROGRESSIVE... with knowledge abreast of science, a well-built and efficient station and operation above reproach.
FRIENDLY... slow and patient operating when requested; friendly advice and counsel to the beginner; kindly assistance, cooperation and consideration for the interest of others. These are the hallmarks of the amateur service.
BALANCED... radio is an avocation, never interfering with duties owed to family, job, school or community.
PATRIOTIC... station and skill always ready for service to country and community.
-The original Amateur's Code was written by Paul M. Segal, W9EEA, in 1928.

How about the hate, discontent, snobery and radio racism going on here on the zed? Seems there are a small group of snobs that think everything and everyone should operate "their" way or the highway...

I thought this was going to be a good place to hang out, but now I just come here for a good laugh...

How about the hate, discontent, persecution complex, disrespect for amateur radio tradition and standards, and ignorance presented by some newby's?

You're right, it is entertaining to watch some newby's get pissed off when guys who've been licensed longer than they've been alive don't bend over and kiss the newby's ***. It's also funny to watch the foot stomping from the newby's demanding respect for passing the current pitiful tests.

Ahh, ok, good to know! I used to live on IRC, and hung out there often, but I will admit it's been quite a while since I graced any channels with my presence.

Next time I hop on I'll stop by!

KX5JT has a good room there and if you can be nice for a change it is a good addition to real radio. I will get users to go there and be a part of this. anything for the betterment of ham radio.
