View Full Version : Undeleting Deleted Files
I have one of those blue colored chip things that goes into a digital camera and I accidentally erased or deleted some pictures on it when I placed the chip into my home computer. How can I recover these files? I have not done anything with the blue thing (card) since the erasure.
They are not in the recycle bin either. I searched the internet and there are numerous programs I can purchase, but I don't want to spend $50 to undelete a few images. Is there an easier way?

I've never used them, but there is stuff out there, I know I've come across before.
I did a quick search found this:

There may be some freeware/linux ones floating around.

Here is a free one you could try......
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html
Or go to tucows.com and search for undelete
Just in case you don't know, your files are still on that card. When you deleted them you just marked the space as "useable". Do not use that card for anything until you recover the files or you may overwrite some of them.
Good luck.

Thank you, the freeware worked perfectly. I got my images back. Thanks for your help.

Glad to know it worked. I have several such programs but have not needed to try them.
Hint: always download the card to a computer folder so you don't modify the card. Also, deleting/modifying is best done in the camera so it can update the fat table. Deleting in the computer can have odd results when the card is put back in the camera.

Very glad I could help out, Bill. Now let that be a lesson to you, always download and back up -twice- all your important photos. CD's are cheap and will last longer than we will (with reasonable care for both the CD's and us!)

read the thread, downloaded the software, liked the claim that Restoration does not contain any adware or spyware
then noticed that the Spytech SpyAgent software (http://www.snapfiles.com/features/spyagent-703-488496.php) on the same site makes the same claim
For those who don't want to follow the link, the linked software's entry also says:
Spytech SpyAgent Professional is a powerful monitoring solution with tons of features and configuration options. SpyAgent Professional records keystrokes, windows opened, applications ran, passwords used, internet connections, websites visited, emails sent and received and even captures screenshots that can be displayed in a slideshow. The program can also be configured to send a log file to a specified email address every X minutes. A very nice, easy to use and fully featured utility. The trial download features 30 minute limits on monitoring session
I have therefore deleted the "restoration" software without ever executing it. Comments ?

Restoration does not contain anything that records anything.
I would recommend getting restoration from the originating site, not a file hosting site, etc.
Restoration can also be used portably on a flash drive!
