Thanks and best 73,

My rig is an FT-100D. It works in the shack, and in the 3/4 ton pickup. I made only one mod to it: the thermal mod to keep the fans running (low speed) on VHF/UHF receive. The only fault that I could find was the way that the 6m repeater offset is utilized. Overall, I think that it is a great rig.

I have both an FT-100D in the shack and an FT-100 in the car. It works great and I highly recommend it. The only issues I have ever had are with the mobile unit and using the Yaesu ATAS-100 antenna. When both are together, they are EXTREEMLY sensitive to SWR. You have to make sure EVERYTHING is grounded very well, but that's just good amateur practice anyway. I also did the SWR shielding modification myself (very simple to do) on the mobile FT-100 and it works 100%. I highly recommend this rig.

I've been using an FT-100D for the last year or so as my main rig in YV-land. It works circles around the earlier TS-50S that I used for a while and is a solid rig. So far 144 countries and WAS on HF and 160 grids on 6 meters using it and an MFJ-941E tuner to either an indoor dipole or an indoor vertical. I haven't used it much on 2 meters or 70 cm, since there's not much activity on those bands here, but it works great on HF through 6 meters.
Compared to my TS-850SAT and old IC-735 at home, the audio is good and the radio is solid. The receiver isn't quite as good as those other rigs with multiple IF filters and notches, etc. but the DSP does a pretty good job of compensating. (I'm picky about my receivers!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif For SWL use, it is passable, but no match for my Drake R8B or IC-71A.
Earlier versions had a thermal problem that Yaesu fixed. Mine was a later version and required nothing other than plugging in an antenna and power supply and has worked fine day in day out ever since. It has stood up to pile-ups and daily use here in YV-land.
All said and done, I like the rig a lot and would recommend it as a portable/mobile or entry level rig. For my home station, I like something a little larger with more knobs and dials and meters, but that''s my personal preference.

I got one via qrz and when it came in I had all kinds of trouble with it, full of birdies and distorted audio. The sub audiable tone was either low or intermittent. I sent it back to yeasu for repair and it came back no charge and working like new. I am more dissapointed in the hams who take advantage of you. yes, I am pleased with the radio and Yeasu for standing behind their product.

I have owned a yeasu ft - 100 d for about 6 - 8 months, and it is installed in the house... it has NOT been modified to go "oput of band " since that is NOT needed, nor has the 'fan mod " been done, even though I spend a lot of time on 50.125....and the fan is ON at high speed.Being a no-code tech I have NOT checked out for transmit on the hf parts, but the 6 meter and 2 meter and 440 parts all work extramely well... The only problem I have had with the MANUAL was the "swr information " was left out of the TABLE OF CONTENTS ( found it on page 56 or 57 somewhere in that area ) #the radio works great, I might have a problem with the SMALL buttons around the MAIN TUNING knob while operating mobile, but in the house there is no problem... the display is well organized and DIMMER control works well... I would give the FT-100 d a 8 out of 10 rating. I would definately buy another if needed.

but you have to remember with these "all-in-one " rigs that if one part breaks, you have to send the entire unit back for repair... if HF does not work well, you LOSE 2 meters, 6 meters and 440 Mhz... you can not listen or talk on any thing while one band does not work right... think about that when deciding if you want a ft-100 or icom 706 or yeasu 897 or any radio that has more than one band in it....
