View Full Version : qrz change ---was it inevitable ??

To me, qrz has changed in the past 6 - 12 months ---not the change that was a week or so back, but a kind of "personality change " in the past few months.
GONE are the old wisecrackers who could always make you laugh with their posts.
GONE are the folks who could explain something with just a few words or , at the most, a couple of sentences .
So sad, that things will not return to how great it was, just a year back. The site is still in existance, yet the mood of it has changed. Can it be explained ??

Of course it can be explained. A lot of people wiser than your or I (since we are still here) have found peace and solace in not logging on for a daily dose of repetitive bickering about the same few gripe topics day in and day out (code/no code, WinLink, CB, 14.275, etc.) Not saying there isn't more to these forums but the other stuff is getting harder and harder to find.

It definitely has changed. To what extent however remains the big question. I may give it a rest myself and focus more about being on the air, or spending more time with family. There is a different atmosphere to this site and forums now. I think we're taking one another way too seriously a lot more than needed.
I will stop in every now and then, but not as often as I have of late. My headaches that I get once in a great while have increased. Time to back off and refocus the priorities.
It's the code.
They dropped the code and ham radio went down the toilet.
Hope I've satisfied both of your conditions, Robert. ;)

Gone, or banned?
Well it look's like Robert has his lost posts back. He is up over 13,000 now. Strange things happen around the ZED.

(sigh ) I suppose I offended some one at the place where major decisions of qrz are made...since this thread will slowly drop down and never get updated with a new post.
So far as the 13, 000....it dont matter. about 12, 995 were useless any way.
For me, I've been a long time lurker. Half of my posts have been recent due to a word association game in the rag chew forum. However, I used to enjoy reading posts here. But, lately, its becoming less and less informative and/or entertaining. I'm failing to see the point of these forums....or should I say the usefulness as related to amateur radio. The majority of posts here are nothing more than an embarrassment to the hobby. I'm not saying that there aren't anymore good people with interesting topics....but they are becoming less frequent.
I know that QRZ.com isn't ham radio. I've always known that. However, forums such as these serve a useful purpose if it contributes to the betterment of the hobby and those who enjoy the hobby.
Best,
Brian

Let's review the subject of most of the postings in the last year:
1. I hate that the FCC (or ARRL) removed the Morse code requirement.
2. I hate non-code hams.
3. I hate WinLink and those who use it.
4. I hate the ARRL.
5. I hate CB.
(The above five are almost daily rants)
6. I hate contesters.
7. I hate DX'ers.
8. I hate nets.
9. I hate ragchewers.
(The above four almost weekly. Then we had a period of posting against ham traditions)
10. I hate the phrase "Best 73's" (even though Hiram Percy Maxim had it printed on his QSL cards).
11. I hate the term "Elmer" (use documented back to 1972, some claim into the 1950's).
With all this hate, what makes QRZ fun?

Charlie's PhotoShop 'jabs' or 'NH's "Man Coulter" pictures, perhaps? :D

What!!?
When I see you post you are always griping about people griping. And before you started doing that a few months back, you were way more jovial.
You sure it's everyone else that changed?

QRZ has changed for the better, IMHO. Gone are the incessant code/no-code rants and 275 crap. With that now either quashed (methinks some mods/Frank finally told a few people to cool it) or the troublemakers gone, this forum is ten times more enjoyable to read. The posts concern HAM RADIO, not somebody's agenda.
We're better for it.. believe me. There's other ham radio forums (who i won't mention by name) where that kind of crap can continue.

I find this thread amusing. I'm the one running this website and I can tell you without any hesitation that there has been no stated policy change around here.
The instructions I give to QRZ moderators are fairly straightforward, and fair IMHO. I tell them not to tolerate personal attacks, bullying, and cursing. Gosh, I suppose that killed all the fun right there...
Being a moderator here is sometimes like being the warden at the asylum. I don't recall it ever being a "rewarding" experience. Lord help us, however, if we ever let the inmates take over. If you want to see what that looks like, just check out http://somethingawful.com

Hey, not many folks get a reply from Mr. Fred.
I feel honored, in a rather primal way.
Look how many other 1000 s of threads ( good & bad ) that dont get a post from Mr. Fred.
Glad I put some humor in his day.
---
think of it --- even ag4yo and kg4kww dont get posts from Mr. Fred on any of their threads....and I use the term "mr fred " with the utmost respect and honor that he deserves . He knows I aint going to insult him or any one else here.
see you folks later...watching NCIS on tv .

455 posts since 1992...
KWW beats that in a weekend.
My vote for most dysfunctional forum - regrettably, I don't have a link - would be a forum for English speaking Korean women I stumbled into while researching diving helmets.
Not one cogent, witty, lucid or thought provoking comment. Just hatred and meanness. You would go there a second time because????

Then everything looks OK but STILL too bright.

Oh, Yeah. I forgot to mention that I'm a glutton for punishment.
I usually read the forums that have the most flames. Of course
not every forum I need the lens on the welding helmet down.
