Hello:
I am still a new ham and CW Enthusiast. I need help with the MFJ-492. Because MFJ added more memory to it, the model is now the MFJ-492X.
I use the Hex paddle with it. The base of the paddle is in the shape of a Hex.
I bought both items from MFJ about a year ago.
I am able to save characters in any of the 8 memories, but if I turn the keyer off for a while and turn it back on, it loses everything that I saved. And I did follow the instructions correctly.
Not only it loses the memory, but after turning it back on, it goes back to factory default. Meaning that I have to set up the tone, speed & weight all over again.
I use the power supply it came with. I am not sure it the cell battery in it is in working condition. I've had this problem ever since I had the keyer.
Just yesterday I put in a new Panasonic 9v battery in it, took off the main power supply then turn the keyer on. The light of the keyer turned on for a second and faded away. And nothing happen.
At this point I do not know what the 9v battery is used for.
Another thing: When the keyer is working, their are times when I hit the paddle and no signal is heard. I then have to move the 1/4 jack around, then I could hear a signal that I play. Although the wiring under the paddle base seems to be correct.
I now have a book on top of the cable between the paddle & the keyer flat on the table. I am not sure if it is a wiring problem or keyer computer problem.
Has anyone had these problem?
What should I do?
I use the keyer for intense practice. And when I am ready I would probably use it on the air. But the keyer has to be more reliable.
I like the features the keyer has. Are their other keyer out there worth having?
