I never had a need, now I do..
I've got Roadrunner, my regular computer, and a PS3. Both the computer and the PS3 work just fine with RR by moving the plug from one to the other, but the problem is that if I do that I've got to reset my cable modem for it to recognize the "other" machine.
The question is, do I want to network the two machines together? I believe this would be a LAN? Then they'll both be able to be on the internet?
Thanks...

You'd need a router, and probably one that 'clones' the MAC address of your computer. By doing that, the router then becomes the computer, "fooling" roadrunner, then you can hook both devices to the router and use them that way.
Its a guess though-I don't have roadrunner :)

Thanks a lot...that sounds right. At least now I know what I'm probably looking for.

A quick google search answered the question. A router will work.
Thanks again.

Yep! I got a router & it came up with no hassles. For reference, it's the Dynex DX-E402, $39..95 at Best Buy. Now I'm doing both this computer & the PS3 simultaneously.
Thanks a bunch for the help!

You shouldn't have to clone any mac addresses.
Get yourself a router, and connect that to the cable modem. Reset the cable modem. The modem will now see the router as the device (computer) connected to it. The router will take care of changing mac addresses in data packets. The modem will think the router is the only device connected to it, and won't know anything about the devices past the router.
I know RR in Columbus, Oh tries to send data packets on weird ports all the time (like every 15 minutes). They have never given me an explanation for this, but the firewall in my router blocks them. RR should have no right to probe my home computer(s) to find out what version of windows they have, or what type of device they are, or any information like that.

Didn't have to do anything but plug everything in. It worked like a charm immediately.
