Joe Walsh WB6ACU... Appears to be doing well in touring with The Eagles. Did some parousing of his stuff on Wikipedia. Good stuff!

Joe is one of the Good guys, and is into AM, Vintage radio restoration and appreciation. I know whenever I see him bidding against me on Ebay, I back off. I don't stand a chance! He has some really nice rigs!

Eagles + Country music =
The Eagles are *not* a country music band. You cannot find country muisc in Nashville.
Really I enjoyed Joe Walsh'es solo career, Boys of summer, no way the Eagles could ever go above, or even equal that song, Hotel California was close, but no.

I think about "Hotel California", and others and figure that is Soft Rock.

I guess the two seem to have been linked through popularity. They are soft rock, but you could say some of Shania Twain's stuff isn't necessarily country music either.

Exactly I was turned off on Country music when that woman starting to hit the charts.
She couldn't play a BANJO if her life depended on it.:D

I get annoyed at Country music because it is always about the same thing: Marital infidelity, doublecrossing spouses, divorce, and other problems married people have. Meanwhile, Soft Rock (except for a few exception like the Eagles Hotel California) is all about lovey dovey be my girlfriend/boyfriend stuff. I want to hear more on the radio like THE HAM BAND, singing about DX, Pileups, Contests, big antennas, etc! Enough of this puppy love stuff!
Therefore, I usually listen to instrumentals like Yanni. No lyrics to foul up a good melody.

I for one am more into classical and smooth Jazz. I do listen to some country, but very selective on what I will listen to. Chesney and some of George Strait's stuff.
Some days, I get into one of those hyper modes and hit the hard stuff too... I guess you could say, it's all about the mood and music to fit the mood.

Joe gets me thinking about his use of Heil products and his contribution to Amateur Rado every time I see him. When I get the type of station I would like to get, I plan on getting some Heil sound products. I was impressed at the Pro Set Plus I borrowed for the 80m station I worked at one Field Day event a few years ago. Will get one of those and will probably look at getting a PR 781 too. Gotta save that money!
One of the two rigs I would like to get one of these days is either the ICOM 756 Pro III or a Ten Tec Omni VII. Ten Tec is American made and that is the other plus.

Her here in Omaha about 5 years ago. They were not real impressed with her.

Yes, your right, the lyrics of that song say, "Dead head sticker on a cadillac" it is rumored that he got that Ideal by seeing Joe Walsh'es caddilac with a sticker on it.

Boy you guys are seriously out of it. The Eagles started as Country and moved to Country Rock. They brought in Joe Walsh from the James Gang to move further into Rock. In their latest album they revisit a lot of their earlier style. Therefore the connection to Country. Not to mention that Country has become Soft Rock for the most part in the meantime.
Boys of Summer was a Don Henley, not Joe Walsh, song from his Building the Perfect Beast album. Joe Walsh's only contribution to that song is a bit convoluted. One of the best lines in the song is "saw a deadhead sticker on a Cadillac". Rumor is that the guy in that Cadillac was Joe Walsh.
While the Eagles may not be or have been a Country and Western band, there is no denying their southwest influence or sound. Glenn Frey has mentioned country music influenced his song writing.
In the late '70s several bands and musicians found their work crossed over into the country charts. The Eagles got a lot of air play on country stations back then as I recall. As did other acts like Dr. Hook (not really noted as a country act either). Also, listen to "classic country" stations today and you'll hear an Eagles tune or two on occasion.
Boys of Summer was one of Don Henley's solo efforts although Joe may have helped on some parts if memory serves
He has bought junk out of my eBay store :)

Don Henley gets credit for "Boys of Summer", not Joe. It came out as a single from his 1984 album "Building the Perfect Beast."
Joe has done enough good stuff on his solo stints.

Several years ago I restored a Collins 75A-1 for a Joseph Walsh of Studio City, California. Frankly, I did not pay any attention to the name until I was going through my invoices getting ready to do my taxes. Then it "hit" me who my customer actually was.
My wife wasn't impressed but all 3 of my daughters were.
The bill was not small and Joe did not complain at all about the amount.

Joe has also made considerable $ contributions (as well as effort) to Amateur Radio over the years, and really supports Amateur Radio. He deserves more recognition for that than he receives.
Of course, I may be biased; he and Bob Heil have also made generous donations of time and equipment to our club station.
Thanks, Joe.
Added: Who cares in what genreyou want to place their music? By any measure, it's excellent, so why quibble. In a lot of ways, the Eagles are in a class by themselves. And I've felt that way even BEFORE meeting Joe.

It was Joe Walsh and Bob Heil who were responsible for the beautiful National NC-303 and Johnson Viking Valiant on display and in use at the ARRL W1AW Station. During my visit there a few years back, I passed on the fancy Icom and Yaesu rigs and went right to the Boatanchors to operate on 40M AM.
Those guys donated the station to HQ.

"Boys of Summer" was Henley.
Maybe this is the connection:
After a mid-way instrumental break is perhaps the song's most famous lyric: "Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac." This image of once-countercultural Deadheads driving establishment status symbol Cadillacs immediately connected with Henley's age group, and neatly encapsulated the song's feelings of loss and aging. It is rumored that this line was inspired by Henley seeing Joe Walsh driving a Cadillac with a Deadhead sticker on it while on Sunset Blvd.

Course all of the lines are blurred anyway. I heard some guy going down our street with one of those tubes a few days ago....it was a guy rapping to a country music sounding background, with the bass intensified, of course.
I think there is plenty of line blurring nowadays.
The main issue I have with it is a good 90% of it is crud. Across all genres. Its pretty bad when I hear teenagers liking the older stuff. I don't think illegal downloading is causing dwindling CD sales as much as the crud they are putting out today is causing it....
After pop music splintered into various sub-genres in the '80s, country emerged as the new pop music in the '90s, strangely enough. To any fan of the old country, up to the early '80s or so, the new stuff was barely recognizable. It must be what a lot of people like as "hot new country" still infests a lot of the airwaves.
Back in the '70s as a youth I listened to the country music of the day which mom seemed to prefer over rock 'n roll. Years later as I learned the lyrics of '70s rock I found it was often lyrically much more reserved than country of the same period despite its crazier sound. But, even dear mom didn't like Johnny Paycheck's Take This Job and Shove It! :D
There are probably any number of reasons why today's music generally isn't worth listening to. As I see it, music is the ultimate expression of human emotion. For years music was upbeat, sure there were the blues, but today's music is so filled with angst that it just doesn't inspire a lot of people. Songs that uplift the spirit tend to be the one's people prefer and remember.
