I think a mod needs to be online for it to work correctly but Fred needs to put a system in place that verifies the users before they can sign up and post.

Seconded without hesitation. AND, if possible, impose a limit on the number of new threads per hour/day/week/whatever which can be started by such "users" abuse the site, not use it].

Most likey a forum bot.
Yes forum bots can interact and seem like a real person.
I saw several registering in the last few hours.

Click users online and watch.

Also this has been going on for over 4 hours now.
Admin and 3 mods online. I pm'd all of them and reported post also.
I had the same problem on my forum.
Took 2 minutes in admin control panel to get rid of them.

I totally agree. I never saw this stuff in the old forums so either it is a setting that Fred missed or this new software has some serious bugs in it.

He probably needs to add the advanced CAPTCHA system to the forum where you have to manually enter the goofy letters and numbers that you see. Bots can now register and post just like users.

It's a downside of having switched to a more popular software package. The board spammers have tons of software available for spamming Vbulletin and phpbb, not so much for less popular board packages.

I take it that means they got rid of the porn poster?

BTW, didn't Fred and/or cohorts write Ikonboard to begin with? THAT could explain why it wasn't susceptible to standard hacks...

It emails us. I had a TON of emails on it when I got home from the County Fire Chiefs meeting a bit ago.

Ditto.

It's going to take a little time for the improvements to become, well, improvements.

Well, those of us that haven't used sites that use the new software aren't aware of that. thanks for the clue.

Spam bots can get by those pretty easily these days. They were in place on my forum and some bots still managed to get in.

The newest version of Phpbb has a filter that instantly kills users from known spammer IP addresses. There are also plug ins that allow you to add a question that requires human thought into the registration process.

This software has similar features. I am sure that the hole is now plugged. All part of upgrading the system.

When I installed Simple Machines Forum on my site, i spent hours going over all the security mods and plug-ins. I found some good stuff that way.

I was replying to the initial poster because he started this thread trying to get the mods attention. The easiest way to do that now is by using the button to report abuse. Sorry if I offended you but it was not intended for you.
