View Full Version : The Bush Legacy
1. George W. Bush inherited a country with a $236 billion surplus. He engaged in seven years of deficit spending that will leave America with more than $3.5 trillion in new debt.
2. Bush inherited a middle class whose incomes increased more than $6,000 between 1993 and 2001. Median household incomes have dropped over $1,000 since he took office.
3. During his presidency, health-care premiums have doubled, from about $6,000 to $12,000 per family.
4. Bush inherited a military that had all active-duty Army divisions rated at the highest readiness levels and that was capable of fighting a two-front war. He will leave behind a military facing the worst readiness crisis in a generation, with not a single active-duty or reserve brigade "fully combat ready."
5. Bush inherited a nation that was respected on the international stage; he will leave behind one reviled by many around the world. A Pew poll of 10 nations found that in 2001, 58 percent of respondents viewed America favorably; today, that number is 39 percent.

What do you expect when the American electorate elects a FM to the White House? It was absolutely obvious that the man was completely incompetent and completely unfit for office, but our wonderful electorate is so blind, so stupid, so dumb that they voted for a freaqin' MORON. Go figure.

Hate to break the news to you OM but Clinton has been out of office for 7 years. Truth is that the FM has been a disaster for the US. The sooner he is out of office, the better. In the meantime you can keep trying to say that there have been worse presidents. Without a doubt, GWB will go down as one of the worse if not the WORSE president in the history of this nation.

Never expect XR to directly answer your 5 points. But then you've been around here long enought to know that. When you have no answer, obfuscate with links to Slick Willy bashing sites. Dredge up the past and ignore the present. Beats admitting that even current Republican candidates are dodging any claim to a GWB legacy they can use as a platform. Once a Republican candidate is named, I bet that not once will GWB be asked to endorse or stump for that candidate. His touch will be avoided like a plague. :)

And without the FM, this election would probably be a lot less offensive. I don't like any of the candidates, and I can't help but think that, say, if we had Mr. Heinz in the oval office we'd have a much better choice of candidates. Heck, even cardboard Al would have made things better. But as it is, after the disaster of the last eight years, not only are there huge problems to deal with, it seems that nobody decent is stepping up to tackle 'em.

Let's add one more question:
where are the flight recorders?
I know it sounds trivial but those things are supposed to be sooooo tough, that they can withstand the worst crash.
WHERE ARE THE FLIGHT RECORDERS?!
(sound of crickets-again.)

It should have said "annual budget surplus" ... we took in more than we spent for that very brief time period.
National debt as a percentage of GDP (the only way to get the "real" picture):

As you can see, the Republican super hero, Reagan, wasn't so hot with the calculator.

As the data source is the White House, you can bet that if there is any way to cook the books to make it look better for the FM, they have cooked away!

And like it or not, the actions taken post 911 has protected American Lives, prevented additional "successful" terrorist attacks and rid the world from the 21st Century version of Adolph Hitler aka Saddam
That does not justify or say I agree with how we went into Iraq, the fact he did not can Rumsfields tail quicker, or the situation we're in now.
But face it folks, things would have been a lot worse off if Gore or Kerry would have been in office (and yes, I voted for that idiot Kerry)
Time is gone, time to hawl off the Bush's and let another leader rise and fall on their own merit. And make no mistake, the next person leading this country will be facing situation Bush Jr did when he first went in --- Mid East in a Mess, Military Forces deployed, Economy hosed and on it's way down, and folks that have nothing better to do than plan attacks that will take out many American lives (along with any other nationality that doesn't believe what they believe)
But what can you do, give sheep the vote???
But look at the bright side -- Y2K is out of the way.................

Oh yeah, it's way too simple to "get" your one dimensional train of thought.
Did you catch on that the second part of his statement is correct, given that the deficit when he leaves will exceed $9 trillion?
Of course not ... in your narrow little world, everyone who isn't an uber right-wing neoconservative war monger is invested in defeat.

Clinton is a historical parenthesis. He has the legacy of an appetite unsatisfied and is now looking for justification. Too bad Bill Clinton did his red-faced, attack-dog, race-baiting performance in South Carolina that left his legacy looking worse than ever. But don’t worry, he left us a surplus.

What is your problem ... reading comprehension skills very poor, or are you just hateful to the point that it makes you stupid?
READ & UNDERSTAND THIS MR. BUSH-BOT:
*** I am not defending Clinton.
*** I noted the "surplus" as a short term event - one year - and understand it entirely
*** I correctly point out that the second half of the man's statement you quoted will play out to be correct
I engaged no other part of this argument.
Pull your head out of your a$$ just once and think for yourself. Your AM radio cannot guide you through life, in spite of what you ditto-heads think.
Oh yeah, and the Dems are invested in defeat.
And the legacy of dick 'n boosh will make even Carter's impotent administration appear like geniuses. History will note boosh the idiot as the worst president in modern history, and rightfully so.
