I finished the install of my rig in the motor home for our upcoming travels. We are going full time within a few months.
I installed an FT-897D with an AH-4 tuner and a standard 102" whip. This install leaves me with the option of adding wire to the whip for more bands or a better antenna while parked. I had this same setup while towing my trailer but the rig was an IC-706.
It's not my FT-990 that I had but it's a lot smaller for travel.
The reviews on this FT-897D are correct. It seems like a nice radio.
I am impressed so far with the DSP on the receiver.
My first report from BC north of the WA border was good too.

Cool!

I have an FT-897D, it's a great rig.
The only radio I would consider trading it for is a FT-100D, that was my first radio ever (borrowed), and I really liked it.

The DSP on it is great, during big PSK contests, I usually turn on the bandpass filter, so I'm not receiving every signal on 14.070

W7WV, were you ASA? That would make at least 3 on this board.

No, but they were across the street from my first signal battalion and we fought with them all the time.
Does that count?

So it's been a while since the original post, how's the install working?

Ever considered running a dipole down the length of the RV?
pole in the front and one in the back.. could fit maybe 20m with the ends coiled a bit??
