That Amp scares the hell out of me... those look like blowers removed from Microwaves... finger eaters for sure..

9 bids for that thing? 600 and change US dollars? Just so some redneck can drown out anything for miles?

Thats slang for 24 pills which means it has 24 transistors inside the amp I would imagine its a competition amplifier for either mobile or a house

I can bet this thing has 2SC2879 transistors, even if they come cheap, 24 of them will still total 600 bucks... assuming they're all good of course :D

Dang. I didn't know that.

I knew one guy named Phil. Had I known 24, I could have soldered them together, hooked them to a 40 channel, and had the biggest signal?

Not really, just having fun ridiculing the ad, the seller, and the item.
And, it looks like there is a lot to ridicule there!!:D
They are on there all the time. Some older ones are collectible.
Some I have seen look very well built!
Personally, I'll keep my AL-1200.:)

With 24 2SC2879 you can have a conservative clean output of 1200W RF, of course you will need a bias system and a good bandpass filter at the output, more than one if you want to work all HF band.

I guess you could achieve 1200 to 1300W easily with good performance and IMD figures if you put a little work into it. Of course this bozo probably claims it outputs 2.5kW, which unfortunatly I believe :(

Anybody paying $685 for this P.O.S. is a dumb-ass.Quite possibly, the seller has been bidding on his own auction. It's not because he is trying to jack up the sales price, you see. He probably just forgot he was the person selling the amp in the first place. Hey, who could pass up a such fine machine? I think the label on the front panel came from a jenuine PC klone compute casee.

BTW, if your radio club is looking for a way to boost attendance at its yearly hamfest, Big Dady just might be the answer! Buy it at auction now and raffle it away at your big event later this year.

Yep big daddy, let me hook up that 800 watt footwarmer here with them 14 gauge wires so we can really put that hammer down and swing them watts!

Some people just don't have to drop trou to prove they are the biggest d**k in the woods don't they.

I guess the good news is that they DON't get their ham ticket and come splatter all over our bands, just certain limited sections of it.

But don't forget that to drive this amp, you are going to need a "Super Wack-Pack'ed" radio.

Reminds me of the old "Bro-Deal" from college. When he promised to give you a bro-deal, he was blatently ripping you off, bro.

WA6MHZ
01-29-2008, 02:37 PM
So the clown who paid $855 for this is named "coquiboston" and I checked out his previous purchases. He bought a 3-500Z, a doorknob cap good for FIFTEEN THOUSAND VOLTS!!! But, get this, he then bought a pair of Eimac 3CX3000A7's for $431!!!! Now, HOW BIG of a CB Linear is he going to build??? OK, he has the big Dady to drive the 3-500Z which will drive the pair of 3CX3000's. And with a 15KV supply on it (probably using a Pole Pig) now THAT is an AMP!!! He will have the loudest signal on Channel 19!

No doubt. Never mind that they're all over hamfests as well. I saw an ugly sweep tube amp that was OBVIOUSLY for CB at the fest today. In fact, I can't remember the last hamfest that did not have these out open and on display. In some cases they didn't even have the requisite "10 Meter" sign on them.

Not sure what's more obnoxious. The worthless discussions about CB amps over and over, or individuals that, without enough imagination to start a new thread, have to dig up month's old threads.
ANd invariably, they have nothing of intelligence to actually offer to the thread when they bring it to the fore.

(FWIW, SOME websites using the current software have a "feature" that apparently alerts users when they are posting to an "old" thread.

For a minute there I thought that you might have been talking about me. I mean, obnoxious is my middle name, but I didn't think that I was digging up an oldie with this one.

Not that digging up old threads is beneath me, mind you.
