Today André ('Andy') Bertemès, F3NB, wellknown to US hams who operate CW on 7 MHz, and his wife Jane celebrate the 70th anniversary of their marriage. They were married in Reims Cathedral on January 26th 1938.
Andy celebrated his 91st birthday last year, Jane the same now in January.
Andy can often be heard around 05-06 UTC on 7030 kHz +/- 3. His signals this morning in poor condx were the best on the band... He is still going strong.
I phoned Andy, heard by me the first time on December
19th 1949, to congratulate him. It was a surprise to him, we have never been talking with each other before, just kept contact by writing letters.
It was great, touching, nostalgic...
I found F3NB again after 57 years (who can explain I did remember his call-sign from my boyhood listening days!?) and he is still enjoying CW... having started in 1932!
My tribute to a great Radio Amateur - his is to me the symbol of Ham Radio! If you hear him, give him a call if you are a ham, and if you are an SWL, send him your report direct!
Au revoir, André - I am sure many others join in the cheers for you and your XYL today!

It was very thoughtful of you to call and congratulate Mr. Bertemès, I'm sure he appreciated it. He sets a fine example for all of us to follow.

Wow, 70 years, Amazing...:)

Of course, they might have been married at the age of 9. :)
